Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)
Moderators: Brad D, Annie, Jonah, BookhouseBoyBob, Ross, Jerry Horne
Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)
Eric Rondell as Johnny Horne. He seems to be a stunt man and not an actor. His head injury is similar to Ben's from Doc Hayward. Hopefully, Johnny survives. Was that supposed to be inside the Great Northern?

This episode gave me the most goosebumps/minute.
There's your roast beef and cheese.
Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)
Really? I missed that. Was it the two girls at the end? What was the repeated dialog?garethw wrote:Curious reworked Laura/Ronnette dialog!

Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)
Every time there's a chance of Cooper awakening it doesn't happen. I thought he be like this until the end of episode. But, maybe something will happen now that Hawk, Frank and Bobby are aware of dopplecoop.
Hastings has a bigger role to play now. Surprised they didn't press him on Cooper. Things are finally setting in motion. Got a feeling this will come to the last episode as some have suggested.
Okay episode, it was one that was binding all the major subplots together. Next week could be a good one!

Yeah, the two girls at the end, whom I suspect might have been the prostitutes Jean-Michel's talking about on the phone in part 7.Esselgee wrote:Really? I missed that. Was it the two girls at the end? What was the repeated dialog?garethw wrote:Curious reworked Laura/Ronnette dialog!
A couple of things jumped out at me. I'll have to rewatch to be certain but...
"Haven't seen you in a while". Then something about being fired for using drugs ("I haven't seen you since you were thrown out of One Eyed Jack's" - which was for being high).
"Repeated dialog" may be a bit strong, but I think there's a strong allusion there.
[EDIT: spelling,episode #]

Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)
MacLachlan outdid himself here, that stare was something else. I was transfixed. Poor Coop.
Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)
When I heard the Deer Meadow Shuffle...
Lovely to see such fantastic work from Matthew Lillard. Both of his major appearances have mined subtle comedy from the deepest tragedy. His dream to go to "the Bahamas" and scuba dive seemed funny, but it was so, so tragic.
What's up with Jerry's foot? Is this just the Continuing Adventures of Jerry the Stoner?

I'm not ashamed to admit I started crying. It was just so profound and the closest to Cooper we've seen yet. I love that one of my foundational parts of Dale is his patriotism and commitment to America. Seems perfect.Pinky wrote:MacLachlan outdid himself here, that stare was something else. That's awesome. I'm sure there's all kinds of interesting stuff in there, Easter Eggs and such.SpookyDollhouse wrote:I love Bill's site it's so charming in a 90s way! http://thesearchforthezone.com/
Interesting that it dates to 1997 - when Dougie may have been willed into existence.
Reminds me - anyone look up Doc Hayward's Skype handle?
Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)
just watched Part 9.
Initial impressions.
Seems to be very similar in style to Part 7 - progressing the narrative, though a bit slower-paced or less intense.
Didn't expect to see Diane again so soon.
Is she a "double agent"?
Pity Jennifer Jason Leigh isn't playing a better or meatier role.
I loved the bit with Cole watching Diane smoking, then taking a sneaky drag.
I like how it's connecting back to the first couple of episodes. I'll have to rewatch them, but Matthew Lillard seems more Matthew Lillard here than he did in them I think? (i.e. more overblown)
Love seeing how much Cole and Albert (and Diane) are figuring in this.
Great throwback to the hum - but I'd like to see this advance more.
I thought Dougie was going to wake up when we zoomed in close on him. Definitely seems to be getting closer, though.
WONDERFUL to see Charlotte Stewart (Betty Briggs)!
And we're starting to get a little more music in the TP scenes now.
Was the first tiny bit of music over the Sheriff's Station exterior the first bit of music we've gotten in TP (outside of the roadhouse)?
Good to see Johnny Horne and Sylvia Horne - well, sort of. We don't really see either of them. Jan D'arcy got very little screen time in the original series - and even less here! We don't even see her face!
GREAT to see a bit of the printout Briggs showed Coop in the original series - I just rewatched that episode recently.
In the middle of rewatching the original series and it's so noticeable just how very different this new series is.
Loved all the stuff with the new Truman, Bobby, and Hawk.
Would have liked a bit more advancement in the plot (and could have done without the policemen laughing and some other slow scenes), but things are moving forward again. Which means Episode 10 will probably be an episode going back to the cosmos - or seeing shovels being painted slowly again.
Not sure what to think of Jerry and his foot!
Overall, great to see all the TP scenes, nice to see the narrative moving forward and going back to connect with some strands from the first couple of episodes. But wish it wasn't quite as slow-moving. Not as good as Episode 7 imo, but I liked it.
Oh and Andy and Lucy still seem very silly to me - but in a different way than they do in the original somehow.

I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.
