I have the two Pacifica Quartet CDs on Naxos with Elliott Carter's string quartets. Really challenging music which I'm not often in the mood for.the woods wrote:elliot carter - bariolage for solo harp
Re: Music, Music, Music!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i like carter quite a bit, one of my favorites actually, plus he has lots and lots of music to explore. he was a very prolific artist! since you like scriabin (i don't know his work real well but enjoy scriabin's "piano concerto in f sharp minor" - i have a copy of the london philharmonic's version), you might enjoy some of carter's earlier stuff from the forties like "the minotaur suite", a comp for ballet. it is still pretty atonal but more in the tradition of stravinsky or maybe hindemuth, more emotionally engaging and dramatic than his later more analytical style.Melong wrote:I have the two Pacifica Quartet CDs on Naxos with Elliott Carter's string quartets. I so love that albumMelong wrote: Miles Davis' Bitches Brew (MFSL SACD with original Teo Macero mix)
A few pieces on Bitches Brew were rehearsed before the recording sessions, but at other times the musicians had little or no idea what they were to record. Once in the recording studio, the players were typically given only a few instructions: a tempo count, a few chords or a hint of melody, and suggestions as to mood or tone. Davis liked to work this way; he thought it forced musicians to pay close attention to one another, to their own performances, or to Davis's cues, which could change at any moment. On the quieter moments of "Bitches Brew", for example, Davis's voice is audible, giving instructions to the musicians: snapping his fingers to indicate tempo, or, in his distinctive whisper, saying, "Keep it tight" or telling individuals when to solo.

Checked out Alexandra Savior's album. She's a debuting artist, who also performed on SWSW Twin Peaks. Her album Belladonna of Sadness was recorded with Alex Turner and James Ford. Certainly getting some Lynchian vibes here and there , both musically and aesthetically

The show was a dream come true. I have never been as awestruck by a performer as when she did the title track from "To Bring You My Love"Melong wrote:I saw her when she was touring for Rid of Me. Good memories.Snailhead wrote:Going to see PJ Harvey on Thursday. It's gonna be grand!
