One reason to worry about the quality of Season 3 (SPOILERS)

This may turn out to be totally irrelevant, but I don't like the fact that so many well known actors/actresses are going to be featured in the new season of TP. The original series relied on very strong actors who were not necessarily mainstream and I think that was very important for the immersion aspect. We didn't know these people. Now I am going to look at Naomi Watts and think: wow, she's hot for her age. I wonder what movie will she headline next?

I am not worried about that in the slightest.

Lynch's recent (well, more recent) films have featured some famous faces in cameos and larger roles, and I love how Lynch has been able to show audiences different sides of these well known actors (and/or musicians)

True, it may affect some of the media coverage in an irritating way, but I don't think it will have any bearing on the quality of the material itself.

Agree with OP. Also, the aerial drone shots of the woods ... l preferred the shots of the mountainside from ground level, in the original series, because as a human, l could identify with that, whereas the aerial shots are for birds. Also, l liked the slight haze in older film footage, rather than the pin sharp resolution of modern cameras, there's no romance in that!

Let's not forget that Twin Peaks features a literal birds eye view shot - from an owl's perspective.

Let's wait and see.

Mullholland drive also features a lovely birds eye view shot of Los Angeles.

Whenever I see Naomi Watts in anything, I think of Mullholland Drive.

Most of the new heavyweights in Season 3 just remind me of Mulholland Drive and Wild at Heart. :D I think I'm going to feel right at home with the new cast.

Plenty has me worried about the potential that this could be awful, but the popularity of the actors certainly isn't one of those things.

I remember thinking when I saw FWWM in the cinema the day it was released that the interior aeroplane shot was the first aerial shot in all of Twin Peaks. The drone/helicopter aerial shots do point to something bigger in the offing.

That said I'm not to worried about season three: I may not like it when it turns up, for what ever reason, but who the actors are isn't too much of a concern. The old show had Piper Laurie, Russ Tamblyn and Joan Chen, all of whom I recognised, so the presence of decent more recent actors doesn't concern me.

Is it possible that most of the 200+ names on that cast list are not much more than cameos at all?

Other than the story being set in multiple states/countries and some of them probably showing huge amounts of people at once (casinos, bars, whatnot) I can't think of any way to incorporate more than 200 people into an 18 hr show - I certainly wouldn't mind much and think that Lynch is fully aware of what he does, but I still wonder about this eevery other day. ;)

Many characters could be single scene appearances with their presence left open for a spinoff at some stage...

While I imagine this will be the end of the story of Twin Peaks, I can see the possibility of some sort of spin-off.

I think a lot of them, big names and small, will be bit parts. Think Richard Pryor and Marilyn Manson in LH, Bowie in FWWM, Crispin Glover in W@H. I don't think there will be much rhyme or reason to who has a major role vs. who is a spear carrier. Not in terms of stature/fame anyway.

Many things make me feel this could be a train wreck; don't feel like cataloguing them at the moment. The one mentioned in this thread isn't one of them, though. You could say the same thing about any actor you know who you watch in anything.

What worries me about the fandom and expectation for this show is that so many appear to be assuming this will be good. Even if the general consensus is that it's an artistic failure, I'm sure that you'll find people justifying and defending every little bit with theory after theory (as has been done with "FWWM", which I and plenty others consider an artistic failure). Don't get me wrong, I hope this is among the best shows of the past decade plus, but I don't assume.
