Where do you go?

Post by ringbearer »

I'm curious about where other Dugpa posters go on the internet. Apart from news media. I don't post an awful lot, but have hung around Dugpa for a long time before even creating an account due to the information and discussion. The imdb boards were great when they existed too. Do you have other old-school sites or forums you like to visit? Obviously Youtube/Netflix and Reddit etc don't count, just specialised, niche/subculture. I suppose I'm wondering if other Dugpa posters have similar interests outside of the Lynch world.

I've often wondered this! Personally, I am in recovery and am now over 3 years sober, so I tend to spend some time on recovery forums/sites offering help and advice, sharing things that have helped me. I also work at the rehab I got sober in, so it helps me improve on certain aspects of the peer support. As for specific interests, I have forums/blogs i frequent for varying (sub)genres and styles of music, including pre-war blues/gospel, ambient, post-punk, etc.

Looking forward to seeing other people's. In a world that seems to be viewed through the polarising rosetta stone of social media, it's nice to know that there are still communities devoted to shared interests and positive discussion. I read an article not long ago that seemed to suggest that niche forums such as this were on the rise again, as people look for both something specifically catered for that particular interest, and a level of anonymity that doesn't leave a trail of all your other ones behind (facebook, reddit, etc). Good news to these ears.

Thanks for the reply Hopesfall; anyone from Jerry Dammers' hometown is cool as far as i'm concerned!

Hopefully niche forums and fan sites are on the rise again. I'm not much of a web surfer, as i try to spend most time at the computer writing music - so if anyone has recommendations of cool friendly places please post.

The artists who inspire you stay with you forever; and in my case (outside of Lynch) a few are..
Stanley Kubrick, Tom Waits, Mike Patton, Jaco Pastorius, William S. Burroughs, Bruce Lee, John Waters, Kurt Vonnegut, Lalo Schifrin.

For any other composers on here, there is a new forum over at Spitfire Audio. Hopefully the user numbers will grow.

I guess if you want movie/film/art discussions, it's pretty much FB. YouTube is pretty useless to get in a sustained discussion, as is Twitter.

I do miss IMDB, although there were some trolls there that got annoying and detracted from the experience from time to tim.

Reddit mostly. Got rid of all social media a few years ago. So I don't have FB, Twitter, Instagram, or any of those things. I only ever had FB and Twitter anyway. I might go back on Twitter if the need arises, for business purposes, but otherwise I really only use this forum, reddit, email, and lurk/browse on other sites. I find you don't really need to join a lot of sites to be able to view tweets, posts, etc. I was never into social media, maybe briefly in terms of FB for 4 or 5 years, but I went off it. I'm not against it per se, it's just not my thing.
I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.
