DUNE on Blu Ray April 27, 2010 from Universal

Post by moviemaker »

April 27th, 2010: Dune [Blu-ray] (David Lynch, 1984) Universal Home Video (You can pre-order from Amazon.com).

This is the same as the one released by Universal a few years ago in that metal case with both the Original Theatrical Version and Extended Alan Smithee Version. Should have the same extras as well including Deleted Dune, Designing Dune, Dune FX, Dune Models, Dune Wardrobe and Photo Gallery.

Thanks moviemaker. You know I'm not very technical. Would this be a collector's item for me not having a blu ray player?

nah...

But the French Version on Blu might be as that one has some extras not found on the US Blu Ray, including an interview with David from 1985.

No, this one from France is on Blu now:
Image
Originally Released in France, on 7 June 2005.

DISC 1
Theatrical Version from a new HD master (2.35:1 ratio)
English
Dolby Digital
DTS 5.1
French
Dolby Digital
DTS 5.1
Optional French subtitles

DISC 2
TV Version (4:3 Ratio)
English Dolby Digital 2.0
Optional French subtitles
Region: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Running Time: 3:08:46
Note: This version is split into two parts, with credits at the end of part 1, and titles/recap at the start of part 2. This is why the running time is longer than usual for the TV Version.

DISC 3
The adaptation:
The adapted novel (8:34) [French language]
An unadaptable novel (9:27) [French language]
Gallery of 15 preparatory drawings (1:15)
Filming:
Destination Dune (6:17) [English with optional French subtitles]
Gallery of 28 photographs (2:20)
David Lynch:
Rare interview (8:23) [English with optional French subtitles]
Filmography
Cut scenes:
Which is Alan Smithee? (10:20) [French language]
Photo gallery of 7 cut scenes with French captions (0:35)
Promotional:
Dune Trailer 1 (1:33) [English]
Dune Trailer 2 (3:01) [French language]
15 French captioned posters (1:15)
Gallery of derived products: books for children, toys, etc. (1:54)
Documentary on the sound restoration of film illustrated by various sequences of film. (3:56) [French language]

The difference on the Blu Ray I believe is that it encompasses DISC 1 & DISC 3 on ONE Blu Ray Disc and does not include the TV version found on DISC 2.

Anyway, I'll know for sure in a few days.

So you just ordered it? Could you provide a link for me to see it on amazon.fr--when I went there, all I saw was the 2008 version. It doesn't help that I can't read French. Can't wait to hear what you have to say about all those extras!!

Thanks moviemaker!! :D

I just found the American version at amazon.com and there's no extras...or they're not telling us. Which is odd because the one you got from France has English on the box.

Help me, guys, do I have to order from France to get the extras?

The one above is the English one. It has Extras listed above. The one with the Black Cover a few quotes up is the French one. Just different extras.

Received my DUNE Blu Ray from France yesterday. It's this one here:
Image

Fantastic image quality! 1920 X 1080P! I was really surprised as I didn't expect it to look so good. Also comes in Both DTS 5.1 Surround as well as 2.0 Dolby Digital.

I have a Momitsu-799 All-Region Blu Ray/DVD player. The extras played perfectly even though they are presented in Standard Definition. It was great seeing "Destination Dune" where Lynch is wearing a mask over his mouth as he proclaims "Welcome to the Convention!" There is also the sit-down interview with Lynch discussing Dune. These extras alone, which are not on the Universal Blu Ray make the purchase worth it for me.

Also included in this film is the scene where the Baron pulls out the heart-plug from one of his "boys". Supposedly this scene had been cut from some of the releases of this movie.

Thanks for your help! I screwed up and ordered the wrong one and then had to cancel it. Thank goodness amazon.fr has English speaking help!! I guess I wouldn't be able to watch it since I have no region free player.
