Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

this show Twenties, for BET, is being shot now I think at Calvert. https://www.bet.com/shows/twenties.html I dunno how things work these days with COVID, whether they allowed to rent all 6 stages to different shows, or there has to be a certain amount of social distancing with different productions...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

the Time magazine got me excited Lynch was directing the premiere. It was the first time I think I'd seen any of his paintings in print. I don't remember the Newsweek issue. My mother subscribed to Time, and I remember being in 7th grade and being given some orientation of how to use the card catalo...

I seem to recall pictures of the Giant and that scene was described in the Time magazine issue w Lynch on the cover, just ahead of the premiere airing. So I was prepared for that scene. That's my recollection, which could be off after 3 decades. But maybe that helped send people running for the hill...

Even doing an anthology thing and you're avoiding answering the big questions, new writers and directors are gonna be faced with deciding even which timeline it's set in, it could be funky. It could be easier at this point to do a Blue Velvet spin-off series set in Lumberton, since there's no altern...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

it is true that most TV shows you don't pay so much attention to the directors. A show like Dr Who is setup in such a way that there's been dozens of showrunners over 60 years, that the mythology can always be expanded like an exquisite corpse art project,. The Return sets up certain questions like ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

Personally, S3 was refreshing to me exactly because it felt like television going as off the rails as it wanted to in a way that's usually only seen in experimental literature. You can say Gravity's Rainbow needed whatever the opposite of yes men are, someone to tone it down, hold things back, etc....

Both Lynch and Frost have children, and under US Copyright law, I believe things go to your heirs. Your lifetime + 90 years I think is current copyright law. You can express the wish not to make anymore of something once you're gone, and maybe draw up some papers, but who knows how enforceable that ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

I think there were other attempts to continue novels/ comics that Lynch put the kibosh on. He really went whole heartedly back to his abstract painting / fine art roots with Inland Empire, and seems he was still in that mindset with Return. Sometimes it feels to me like Lynch has more in common with...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

I would agree the intent in 1989-1991 was to make a slightly quirky, but Peyton Place conventional mainstream type series in collaboration with other writers and directors coming in to continue the threads. In that regard, it was like Dr Who or Star Trek, or any soap with a giant story arc, but the ...

the heirs of their estates are gonna want money down the road, so I would expect a push from some executive for a clean slate TP reboot in the 2040's or 2050's or something, or sequel maybe. I dunno, I would think the Laura Palmer mystery is something whoever is considered an A lister in twenty or t...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

I've seen somewhere Laura Dern mention both Spielberg and Demme asking her questions about Lynch. I can't remember where. I can't remember when she worked with Demme even, though I know she was in the running for the Clarice role. One other Spielberg connection in Room to Dream, I think the co-autho...

yeah, I've seen this Terry Gilliam rant before. There's things about Schindler's List I don't care for, the red symbolism with the dress I thought was over the top for example, that treated the audience a bit like we're all children, and lots of Joseph Campbell esque obvious storytelling in general ...

Re: Alternate Cuts/Versions of Films? The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Abyss - I seem to remember neither cut that great, the Orson Scott Card novelization pretty good with the character backstories I seem to recall from 30 years ago, I seem to remember liking that more than the film Halloween 6 - blast from the past - thats after Michael Myers' gets rescued from j...

Re: Yellowjackets

I'm caught up. I like some of the supernatural elements so far.

Part of human survival instinct historically has been intertwined with religion, faith, superstition, so makes sense that Lottie's predictions, visions, would catch on as something to cling to.

Re: SPOILERS: Inconsistencies in the Secret History of Twin Peaks

Re the subjectivity / inconsistency of memory. anecdotally - Isaac Asimov here in 1986 is promoting his autobiography, talks about how much people forget over time, some people forget their own lives. He looked at his old diaries, thought things happened in some years, actually happened in others. i...
