Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

Every single Showtime show gets run into the ground, then a few feet under. There's nothing "prestige" about Showtime and never has been. The Return landing on Showtime almost assuredly had more to do with CBS owning the rights to TP and Showtime being owned by CBS than anything else. If T...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

I don't think that type of meta narrative is anything David Lynch does with his works.

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

Yeah maybe. On the other hand, I also don't think that any of the series revivals in recent years have hit the mark. Be it TP, The X-Files, Gilmore Girls, Arrested Development, 24, Roseanne, Murphy Brown, The Clone Wars, etc. It just never recaptures the feeling, spirit, or mindset of the original w...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

The all digital, all bright, even lighting makes it look cheap and sterile. The few flashbacks to FWWM or the original series highlight how much warmer and lived in the world of Twin Peaks seemed. It all feels like a set in The Return. Of course the dodgy green screening, intentional or not (and I ...

Re: The Random Twin Peaks Thread

I mentioned it in a season 2 ep thread, but I really enjoy the Andy/Dick rivalry that turns into a genuine friendship that basically doesn't even factor Lucy into the equation. It's probably the most charming subplot of the down stretch of season 2. I also wish Windom Earle was a serious villain ins...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

Yeah I agree with that. They're no chance they could have held off the reveal forever, and I think even without network insistence, the reveal likely would have come not much later than when it actually did. There's no way it could have gone into a third season without a reveal, especially in the er...

Re: Episode 23

I'm not really particularly interested in the who is the father storyline, but I really find Andy and Dick's evolving relationship into genuine friendship to be probably the most charming aspect of the down stretch of season 2 stuff.

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

The Return is much easier to enjoy if one lets go of his own personal wants and desires from the series and lets it just be its own story without the viewer trying to make it fit inside its desired box. Its never going to be the original, things change characters and stories change. The flashbacks ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

I'm okay with no more, because much as FWWM and The Return have shown, it's not going to resolve or answer remaining mysteries and questions, and it will just bring up a bunch of new mysteries and questions that will never get a resolution. I don't see the problem with that, especially given the or...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

No, I do not find not enjoying or wanting to find out that characters you enjoyed from 25 years ago are all miserable and dying or otherwise have been stuck in the same ruts for 25 years to to be more misanthropic than writing a story where said characters are all miserable and dying or otherwise h...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

But ultimately I think it's lacking the humanity that made people fall in love with TP.... I think a lot of why people fell in love with TP is not having to do with humanity or realism, actually, but fantasy. There's a lot in the original show that is a kind of too eager to entertain wish fulfillme...

Re: FWWM sequels

My reading was he signed a 3 picture deal with the company that produced FWWM, not that he signed a deal to make 3 Twin Peaks movies. I have little doubt there would have been another movie had FWWM done well, but I don't know why anyone reasonably could have expected it to do well enough to garner ...
