Re: The biggest problem with The Return - the fear/mystery element largely missing?
Or maybe the emperor is actually naked I’m not sure what this adds to the discussion. I suppose it is possible from your perspective that me and everyone else who loves the show is willingly deluding themselves. Maybe the original Twin Peaks is a naked emperor too, and all its fans are deluding the...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?
The writers explicitly admitted/bragged that "the public" (e.g. specific viewers and/or critics) reacted very positively to the women finally taking control over their own lives and not being victims anymore, that they decided to write more storylines about strong women. Just as these wri...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?
I think these are great points that also somewhat simplify what I perceive to be Rhodes' point. Of course, as you say, great art isn't sabotaged by introspection. Quite the opposite, you're totally correct. But in this case, where you talk about the artist's own inclinations, some might make a simi...

Re: The biggest problem with The Return - the fear/mystery element largely missing?
I don't think digital was the problem, it was rehashing old material. The good part of Season 3 (I acknowledge no marketing terms from Showtime) was Part 8, the purple place, etc, and used a lot of CGI and digital photography, but it was NEW, and I think Lynch was more excited about it than the old...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?
It would be fantastic if Lynch gave more roles of depth and prominence to people of color in whatever he is doing next. It doesnt have to be all out PC, but Jade the prostitute, the comic relief cop in the Las Vegas scenes is a little minstrel-y, the homeless woman in Inland Empire, and so on, ther...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?
@Reindeer: we know that this desire to include people of colour and promote diversity doesn't come naturally for Lynch. He is influenced by his environment. And not just a random environment, but the respectable opinions that are taught be decent people from decent outlets such as Eastcoast Univers...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?
That was a really lovely interview. I loved that the kid asks when the number of the day will be seven, because a few days back Lynch got a seven and was incredibly happy (I think there was a “by golly”). I assumed it was just because it’s his favorite number, but clearly that was after he’d talked...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?
I don't want rehash too much what we've already discussed about COVID, but just to note how quickly the virus ran through the White House and had the POTUS not had the very best health care in the country, he very well might have died (he still may not be out of the woods). Lynch has to be looking ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?
Interview with Lynch in which he suggests that were it not for the virus he’d probably be making a film “or continuing story” right now. Considering the Hollywood Horror Museum tweets I have a feeling that in another dimension we’re all obsessing over set leaks from Twin Peaks 4... http://www.youtub...

Re: Twin Peaks Actually Explained (Youtube)
Catch his Response To Critics video, too. I think he addresses all the complaints in this thread. I was with this guy every step of the way, I started even finishing his sentences. Excellent construction of his argument, exhaustive references to Lynch himself. I appreciate his impersonation to clea...

Re: Part 17 - The past dictates the future (SPOILERS)
In Lynch’s interview with Cahiers he specifically mentioned the scene was improvised - someone has provided a translation here:

Re: Twin Peaks Actually Explained (Youtube)
Yes, I understand that this guy is very annoying to a lot of people. But the messenger should be separated 100% from the message. Even if we completely discard the claim that the television-angle is the crucial one and that he has found the ultimate key, he still provides so, many, many, many inter...

Re: Twin Peaks Actually Explained (Youtube)
Joel Bocko's videos really are the cream of the crop. His latest few on Lynch's collaboration with Mary Sweeney are particularly good. Just to keep the positivity flowing, here are a number of other video essays which I think are worthwhile for various reasons: To Linger With You by Corn Pone Flicks...

Re: Part 7 - There's a body all right (SPOILERS)
I can’t recall if anyone has mentioned this, but Lynch mentions Laura’s “Annie” diary entry being found as a S3 plot point in the Chris Rodley interview book, way back in the mid-1990s. So that plot point was percolating in his head for a good long time! It was so lovely to finally see it realized,...

Re: Twin Peaks Actually Explained (Youtube)
I cannot believe this topic has only two pages, considering that thousands and thousands of pages have been produced on TP theory/interpretation on this board. I am not saying that this guy is correct on every single detail (or that this is the only perspective on the show), but some of his discove...
