Re: Lara Flynn Boyle Blogs Twin Peaks

I must say, I'm having the opposite reaction of most of the folks here. I've now swung in the direction of liking Lara again after reading her blogs. I mean, maybe she is a bullshit artist supreme, but my gut isn't telling me that. She writes just like what she says she is and has already been quoted: Understand, both my mom and I are very meat and potatoes type people.
I've gained new respect for Lara after being put off in earlier years by her hijinks with Jack Nicholson and alleged drug use (well, we all have issues). She had virtually no experience on film and as she said, she learned her craft while doing her role on Twin Peaks. It showed, and yet, David Lynch knew what he was doing casting her. Her rawness as an actor was a good fit for Donna's over-emotional, stakes always high behavior.
I loved how she talked about Lynch directing her -- God, what a genius he is. My best teacher always told us, "Actors are highly suggestible." Even if as she says, people laughed during the pilot, ("Now when you say, `I hear sirens,' think of it as like deer in the woods."Even after all these years, I can still hear his voice. "It's like deer in the woods.") I bet DL got the effect he wanted. These kids were like malleable clay in his hands even though some were clearly more experienced actors than others.
I don't follow all the ins-and-outs of Twin Peaks. Why some actors were involved in some projects and others not. Why does Lara have to explain her absence from Fire Walk With Me? I'm not being argumentative, I just don't get what debt it is she owes to anyone that she must be dumped on for not giving a satisfactory answer. What she did say could be her way of saying she doesn't want to talk about it. I thought it was pretty diplomatic, considering. And funny.
This impressed me as well: I do the work and move on. You're only as good as the day's work. Then it's back to the proving ground. It's a very rare ideal in her field. A lot of actors do rest on their laurels. Not her. Sounds like she's got her priorities clear, so more power to her. I really enjoyed the read and thank Jerry for alerting people at MySpace and supplying the links. Here too.
