Cast Member Stats

Post by Mr. Reindeer »

Here is the list incorporating TR. Apparently I decided to use a different format here (going by character, not by actor, in the rare instances where there were recasts). It also seems I just counted FWWM and TMP as one entity for this list—i.e., as long as a character appeared in one or the other or both, it counts as one appearance (as opposed to the first list where I specifically noted the times when a character appeared in MP as a sort of asterisk, not included in the main count).

Thanks for posting! This is a great reference.
I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.

Yeah, Kyle MacLachlan is the only one appearing in every installment of Twin Peaks.

There is that one episode of The Return, not sure which, where Dougie plays throwing and catching a ball with his son. If my memory serves me right, that brief scene was Kyle's only appearance in that episode?

And glad to see Benjamin Horne so high on the list. I hope Richard Beymer returns, whatever this new project may be.

That was part 12. In part 14 his appearance was perhaps even more sparse: he only appeared in Andy's vision in the Fireman's place for 10 seconds.

Also in Gordon’s dream (from the neck down, and in archive footage from FWWM/TMP).

I had a feeling after watching part 12 that Lynch put that scene in just to make sure that we don't spend the whole episode without Kyle :D And it was a funny and sweet moment which fit in perfectly.

What ever became of LITM! I hope he finishes/updates that mammoth undertaking someday. I’m fascinated to see how he’d incorporate TR into the Spirits entry, as well as the Cooper entry.

I think that’s part of why he used it there, but I also think he considered the fact that it makes no sense in terms of narrative flow (Dougie should be in the middle of his all-night bender with the Mitchums at that point), and placed it there as a very deliberate signpost that the chronology of the show has completely broken down in that middle portion. There are plenty of other instances of this in the mid-stretch of Parts 10-15 or so, but I think this is by far the most in-your-face.

That's a great way to put it, especially when Part 13 doubles back to show you where Cooper really is, and that whole thing with Ed and Bobby at the diner, and you realize that, according to that conversation, virtually no time has passed since they discovered Major Briggs' note, and you just want to crawl in a hole the first time you see it because you just want them to get to Jack Rabbit's Palace already! Most of Part 13 seems like it should take place right after Part 11, and it just lays a really uncomfortable mindtrip on you, especially after the intentional frustration of Part 12.

Speaking of which, there's also the idea that many of the Parts in that stretch seem organized according to intuition (more than usual) or theme. So in Part 12, Ben talks about his father, and how Richard never had a father. The warden gets shot in front of his son, who will now grow up without a father. And Dougie and Sonny Jim share an unsuccessful game of catch, but it's probably more successful than the "real" Dougie, who likely also wasn't a good father.
