The liklihood of there being 18 episodes

Post by owlsseemrealtome »

Ever since Sherilyn Fenn's pronouncement that there will be 18 episodes to this third season people have taken her statement as gospel , but as we have had not official confirmation from Showtime ( due to the way the season is being shot as one long movie, and the way the series will be edited from that into episodes ) can we take that at face value?, and moreover is it even possible that Lynch and his crew could of captured 18 episodes worth of material by the end of May 2016?.
I have no knowledge about how long it takes to film a single episode, but I cannot imagine it being a speedy process.

Whatever the time it normally takes to film an hour drama (10-14 days?), Lynch's style of filming all at once will surely bring down the averages per episode.

I think David Nevins said 18 wasn't set in stone, just that it would be more than 9, perhaps significantly so.

My guesstimate, considering today is day 72 and it's the halfway point:
144 shooting days, shooting 4 pages of script a day= 576 pages.
One page of script=one minute of film.
Based on old episodes, averaging 46 minutes per episode=
12 to 13 episodes total.

I arrived at a similar approximation: if "shootdayseventytwo" is "#pasthalfway", I figured approximately 140 days of shooting. Timelines recently quoted on this group suggest about 12 days per hour of film (for FWWM and modern TV dramas), so... we might expect roughly 11 to 12 hours of footage.

Most of Showtime shows have 12 or 13 episodes per season so that makes sense.
This is - excuse me - a damn fine cup of coffee.

What's the average length of a Showtime drama? Is it 46-47 min like the old show? Or an hour? Just wondering. I have a feeling the new eps will be of varying lengths.

Showtime has one-hour episodes.
