There shouldn't be a contest... All the original characters were great, and needed.

Yeah, believe it or not, I don't give a hoot about A and C skipping through fields of flowers together... Now or even back then. I just care about ingredients that work... And I always thought Cooper and Truman, and Cooper and Audrey were the constants in terms of grounding the show. They were the big three for me that (back in 1990) I thought once the LP mystery finished and we moved onto the next big thing (which originally seemed like Frost suggested, it would be one mystery after another) that would probably always be around in the thick of things. And naturally with Laura always a cipher of unsolvable mystery... And Lucy always answering the phone.

So for me, it probably only feels like a satisfying endgame Return if Cooper has those magical scenes of reconnecting with both Audrey and Truman as his main anchors. I love Robert Forster, but this thing would already feel a hundred times even more grounded if Ontkean were in his place (and I already feel Lynch and Frost are knocking it out of the park with this series).

I love Audrey, but certainly more than The Girl/love interest of protagonist. What worked about her initial infatuation with Cooper was the it really awakened a purpose in herself... His idealism and purity made her strive to be a better, inspired person. Or getting sidetracked in an instant from her flirt game when meeting someone like Denise, "they have women agents?!" Showing she can do these things. That was what was gratifying about the character... And then it went all down hill where she does become just The Girl with pedestrian John Wheeler scenes.

Okay, we really need the new episode ...for my own rambling sanity.

I think reconnecting with Hawk, Andy and Lucy should feel just about as satisfying as if Ontkean were there, but we will see.

Yeah, I'm glad for the reconnection. Especially Hawk.

In the real world, people retire, especially if the Sheriff has over 25 years of service. I kind of just wish there was a Sheriff Jones in Twin Peaks. But, whatever.

Also in the real world young people have marriages, failed marriages, children in and out of wedlock, etc. Some get rich, some get poor.

So Frost decided to replace a Truman with a Truman. Whatever. I hope we see some complex issues with Big Ed, James and Audrey. Oh wait, nevermind, we know Jame's situation. He's always been cool.

Correct, but I don't think Twin Peaks is supposed to be like the real world. It's almost like the town of Twin Peaks is to Cooper like what Metropolis is to Superman .

AMEN!

But as mtwentz says, this is a fantasy world.

I'll take it, let's go for the ride. Hopefully tonight we find out more, and not get treated to a discussion on the origin of the universe, although DKL could probably do a pretty bang up job of that!

Eh, I dunno. That MacLachlan/Ontkean dynamic was really something else, and was an incredible driving force on the original show. Still, if Ontkean had personal stuff, there's nothing anyone could have done. And if anyone can be relied on to make the the most of what he's given, it's DKL (as exemplified by the beautiful way he's used other deceased/absent actors and characters).

This is Twin Peaks. There WILL be a funeral! Will it be Johnny? Will it be Sheriff Truman? Will it be someone else?

Stay tuned....

I'm expecting Part 14 to be Frank driving his riding mower across the state to visit Harry....only to get there minutes too late and cursing himself for turning down Hawk's offer of a ride.

And the Fusco brothers will intercept him and help him fix his brakes. Then sit down, talk and have a beer and cigarette with him. This will be the cause of the delay.

When it comes to seeing Laura again and Audrey again, there's just no contest.
It's just a matter of preference.

C'mon, Laura's not that bad!

Of course I agree, the reunion (if it happens) with Cooper and the sheriff department will be extremely satisfying. But I always linked the guys as a group. Back in the day, when I imagined Twin Peaks ending, Cooper would have individual goodbye one on one scenes with Truman and Audrey... Maybe as it progressed one with Major Briggs, once his character started to grow.

Richard Horne Origins

Hello everyone. This may have been covered previously on this thread but... what is the general consensus on Donna Hayward being Ben Horne's offspring (as we discovered on the final episode of the original series) ?

Technically, Donna Hayward is Donna Horne. If that is the case then maybe Richard Horne is actually the offspring of Donna Hayward ! Whoa !

I think the consensus is what we saw is what it is. It was straight forward. She is his daughter, but considers Doc her dad. There are other theories, but you asked for consensus.

Names. Names. Names. In the USA, in this case, it would highly unlikely -- given Donna's disposition -- to take on Ben's last name. Secondly, it would unlikely any child would take on the mother's name. In other words, you'd need two unlikely scenarios. Not impossible, but unlikely.

Now for Audrey... Still unlikely. Her maiden name is Horne, for sure. But flyboi Billy Zane may have impregnated her and flown off to who-knows-where to die. In this case, a child is more likely to keep the mother's name. Ditto for a rape by EvilCoop. Especially a rape. Keep the mother's name.

We'll see ... or not. You never know with Frost and Lynch. Richard may go the entire season and we don't know his origins. Wouldn't surprise me.

You're on to something here. The time shift doesn't affect us UK viewers in that way (if anything, it's a bonus), but it's a shame to think of a huge audience out there watching a show like this before it gets dark. Watching in a daylight, or in a lit room is probably fine and all, but without darkness and loud sound, it'd feel like a watered down experience for me.
