Clearly Vegas ends up playing a part in this as is seen by Fischler's character (Duncan Todd) earlier.

I feel like we are getting played right now. We have Dougie seemingly being oblivious to everything and yet everything is in its right place for him from the get go. His haircut was a rug/wig to Jade. He misses a sniper shot by dropping key. Little Nicky bubblesque clouds show him how to win slots. He gets home safe. His wife barely questions him after being away for 3 days (okay, the $ bag could distract her from all that). Breakfast was set up perfectly despite his tie being on his head and his son doesn't even speak to him. It's all ass backwards, even the 1-1-9 calling out after he leaves with Jade.

It's like he can do no wrong without trying.
I agree with you, and the owl flying above his head means something (someone is looking)?
I also noticed that when he drinks coffee the cup clearly says that.... It's Dougie's coffee. It looks like the only wrong he did was drinking a coffee that was not for him.
Yes. The owl. And Sycamore Street spotting.

I can buy that this whole sequence is living inside a dream.
I buy the dream as the narrative possibilty far more than I do the 2003 timeframe. Granted, the Dougie in the red room bit is still perplexing. Damn, I love this show.

And coffee, the right one, wakes him up from his slumber.
Definitely a possibility.

Me too. Especially because I am sure that episode 5 will crush any of our theories.

Parts 3 + 4 (SPOILERS)

- First Naomi Watts' character is wearing very similar pinkish sweater she wears in Mulholland Drive's dream sequence.
- In her next scene she is wearing light blue top, again similar to the one in Mulholland Drive.

Is Lynch just teasing us or could this hint that maybe Dougie's life isn't real at all?

Ps. sorry I couldn't get screenshots from the show. If anyone can take screenshots that would be great.

What I noticed is that there are only two proactive characters.
Jade - but we don't really see her a whole lot.
Naomi Watts.
They both talk fast, take initiative, solve problems, etc.
All the other characters - including the various Coopers - talk slow, and mostly react to situations.

The only thing in common between Jade and Watts? Dougie.

Perhaps they are the same person? (Shades of "Lost Highway")

If so, this reminds me of Coop saying "I need to brush my teeth" twice.

(Sort of obvious sorry)
Yeah, it seems to me that, whenever Evil Coop is trying to pass himself off as Good Coop, he has a habit of repeating himself (even in the Missing Pieces with the 'it struck me as funny' bit).

That's been my theory at this point - but maybe I am taking things to literally. The switch of the numbers on the panel reminded me of a puzzle in the old PC game Myst - it seems almost too simple and may even be a red herring. Some have theorized that Cooper is not yet in the "real" world, but is in a dream world ala MH; maybe that's the case. In which case continuity errors like a 2003 license sticker on one vehicle; next to a Jeep wrangler (the license sticker on which seems blurred or non-existent btw) that could not have been made until at least 2006 may be clues to that this is not taking place in our reality, rather than continuity errors by the production team. Also here in the US 911 is a "call for help", not 119...

At this point, I don't know what to think, which is ok by me - many more episodes to go.

Don't lose hope on the 2003 theory yet. Remember that Janey-E (Niaomi Watts) said that Dougie was gone for three days. I don't think he was Mr. Jackpots that long. It just looked to be the day. Dougie 2003 could have been identified by "the manufacturers" as the closest Coop around, and he drove into 2015 unbeknownst to him.

The kitchen decor looks more 2015 than 2003. (EDIT: not so sure! This kitchen could be 2003.) I also seem to recall seeing a customer in the background at the Casino vaping. There was no vaping in 2003.

Time is messed up in this world. Anything is possible. There are a lot of ambiguous clues.

Hi all. Long-time fan and (nearly) first-time poster here. I've only watched the four episodes once at this point, but my opinions are generally in line with most of what I'm reading from you guys. I do expect that eventually Twin Peaks the town will come more into focus in correlation with Cooper regaining his identity. This is why we're only getting glimpses of the town from time to time, with really only Hawk's storyline getting any sort of real attention paid to it (obviously because it ties into locating Cooper).

Random thoughts:

While I am really intrigued by where the DougieCoop thing is going, those scenes are REALLY slow and I cannot imagine wanting to watch them again; particularly all of the casino stuff. I mean, I get that Lynch does that stuff all the time, but at some point my interest just isn't there anymore.

I absolutely loved the first Roadhouse scene and was nearly brought to tears by James showing up. James, of all people! On the other hand, I don't care for the idea of ending each subsequent episode with a random band just playing a song there. So, what, we're going to get solo Eddie Vedder, but not Pearl Jam? There could've been a scene with James head banging to "Evenflow!" Then again, if Julee Cruise is the final performer like some are suggesting, then that'll be pretty good.

On the new cast members: Lillard absolutely killed it, and Forster seems like he's going to fit in perfectly. I'm also on the side that loved Cera's scene. Everyone predicted his role correctly, but what a hilarious performance. That would be an counterexample of a seemingly never-ending scene that I loved. However, I'm not too sure about some of the other casting decisions. Surely Watts' role will expand, right? And they didn't just bring in Ashley Judd for THAT, right? Bell was a complete disaster, and it seems like she's going to be getting lots of screen time. Great.

Hawk and The Log Lady were fantastic, but Andy and Lucy are pretty tiresome this time around. The bunny thing really wasn't funny at all, and, surprise surprise, it went on too long.

Bobby's scene was tremendous, as was everything in NYC with the glass box.

So, Belushi, Knepper and Roth will show up in Vegas, right? That could be quite awesome.

Also, just wanted to point out that the still of Duchovny in Entertainment Weekly is not from the scene we saw, so she's definitely showing up again. Thankfully, because that scene was really bad.

I'm reserving judgment on Evil Cooper for now, but the prison scene was definitely the scariest thing in the show so far.

I'm looking forward to Big Ed and all his drama, Shelly's family drama and James' eternal quest for true love; hopefully we get some of that starting with episode five.

Overall, I'm not in love yet, but I'm open to persuasion.

OMG, I love the Dougie Casino scenes. I showed them to wife, who I don't think will be able to take the overall darkness of this season, and she thought they were hilarious. She was even talking about those scenes the next day.

As far as Denise goes, I am pretty sure the photo still in EW is the same scene that we have seen so far. Whether she returns or not is anybody's guess.

I watched them the first time, and I liked them. My wife - not a TP fan - also enjoyed them. However I was like "next time I see this episode I am just going to skip 'em, the casino scene is way too long."

Second time I watched it? I LOVED them, and they felt way shorter than what they seemed to me the first time I watched it.

HellloOOOoooOOO.

Finally caught up on the thread. Very quick question - was I the only person surprised to see Chrysta Bell as Tamara Preston? I thought conventional wisdom was that Amy Shiels was playing that part (even though Frost told us the audiobook casting was not necessarily the same as the show casting).
