Do you honestly believe there will be more Twin Peaks?

Just curious.

I mean actual Peaks, not a VR game or some shit...

I voted no, sorry guys.

Yes, because I still think there's a market for it. The new DVD release proves that. And I also think Lynch and Frost would like to do more.

Yes, but I do also have some doubts.
I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.

If I had to bet on it, no.

But I've been wrong before.

I voted yes for various reasons:

-Mark Frost and David Lynch love the world of Twin Peaks
-The cast and crew love creating Twin Peaks
-The audience has much love for the show and that has been the case for 30 years
-I dreamed that it happened

Yes. Not entirely for reasons I can speak on.

Yes. While I’m enormously skeptical of any individual rumor/hint/etc. that people are inclined to read too much into, I do believe that one day when the muse strikes, we will get more. Lynch has more or less said as much, with his quote that Carrie is calling out to him but there is interference (or whatever the wording was).

I voted yes but am satisfied enough with the ending of season 3 if there is no more.

I know you partially stated your reasons in another thread - the ending is perfect and you don't see how they can do much more than they already did in their 18 hours - but are there any other reasons you so strongly feel this way? You don't trust that they'd have worthwhile new ideas and that it would be different like every iteration of the series has thus far been? That's why I would be good with more happening despite having some thoughts similar to yours about the ending and about how wild and unprecedented and better left as a one-off S3 was. I simply feel a 4th would be something else we don't expect, done in a different way (shorter, since they got the time-focused idea of returning out of the way, for starters).

I wouldn't say anything about S3 was perfect, but I feel that it was THE statement as far as returning to that world. No, I don't trust that anything they would or could do would be interesting or good enough to justify a return again to this world, especially if it involves more alternate world/identity crap that Lynch has done so much of in his career. They purposely made an anti-narrative, absurdist, audience-needling film, so how do you dial back from that, and how lame would it be to repeat the same feelings and structure? You can't go further unless it's just Coop staring at a wall for the whole thing. I don't believe the "story" foundation is strong enough to support anything additional.

I personally am more of a Lynch fan than "Peaks", so the idea of having something called "Twin Peaks" that would not involve Lynch directing the whole thing, after S3, is abhorrent, sickening. I can't believe fans would actually want that. I think/hope that people are getting themselves in a lather of anticipation for nothing, analyzing every angle of every "tweet" that comes down the pike.

I agree with all that, but like I said I don't think it would be the same thing. Would an unlikely return to narrative driven storytelling be so bad? Would an even further venture into the avant-garde be unwelcome? A further exploration of the emotions of the characters, or of American history? I will never tire of Lynch's investigations into identity, so if that's part of the narrative, that would be fine as I think he's always exploring it from fresh angles. So while I agree precisely with your words about it being THE statement about returning to that world, I always think there's more that is possible to uncover.

And yeah, there's no hope of this happening without Lynch helming it so I don't think that's even a concern. As more of a Lynch fan like yourself, pre-season 3 I never wanted more Twin Peaks in the first place, but now that I see how it serves as a playground for Lynch to do whatever he wants then I can't help but welcome more if that's the most fertile ground for his ideas.

Edited to add: I do think the ending is perfect, and for what it's worth I had similar thoughts to yours about The Return 12 years ago, asking how Lynch was ever supposed to dial back from something as extreme as INLAND EMPIRE. I'm sure he also asked the same thing of himself during his 10-year filmmaking drought. But thankfully The Return was the answer to that question, and I'm sure that a follow-up would also answer in kind.

I don't think it's possible to dial back to something more traditional within the "TP" property, but outside of it he could hypothetically do anything he wanted. I never thought post "IE" that he would have trouble doing something straighter.

As far as him using "Peaks" as a playground to do what he wants and just slapping the "TP" name on it (even more than was done this time), I'm not sure I can get behind that.

It feels like this is over, especially because so many cast members have sadly passed. The fans are the ones keeping it going, and it seems they're trying to will something into existence that probably isn't happening, all based on a "tweet" from a self-serving entity. Silence from those involved doesn't mean something is happening; they're not beholden to comment on rumors.
