I cant help but think originally, the plan was to have a dancing LMFAP floating above those slot machines. Guiding Coop/Dougie to the winning machines.
I can definitely see this, to the point where it almost seems likely.

It would have been extra fascinating to see the The Arm leading Cooper to the one-armed bandit.

On a related note I always assumed the reason Mike/Philip and the red room appear to exist slightly below floor level when Dougie encounters them in Vegas is presumably because those scences had already been filmed with Michael J. Anderson, so in Kyle's reaction shots he was natuarlly looking downwards and they had to work with that when inserting Strobel! Another happy accident!

That's an interesting thought, but I don't think that MJA ever signed any contract let alone made it to the set. If he had, we'd all be clamoring for that footage. Imagine, The Return: The MJA Cut!

I do have a feeling of the black lodge being sort of underground. I don't mean that it's literally underground, but it feels that way, especially with the oil pool reflecting the red curtains, and various shots, especially in FWWM, where we're looking down on the lodge.

This shot is from Leland's point of view as he enters the lodge, and it seems somewhat high:

This is Laura's perspective, though I think this shot is from the Missing Pieces:

There's also this shot at the end of the above-the-convenience-store scene, where BOB and MIKE/Arm/LMFAP enter the lodge:
