People are using DougieCoop (or droolcoop, or mr jackpots) as a shorthand for the newly-returned not-all-there coop who takes Dougie's place and is addressed as Dougie by everyone he encounters because it's a distinct performance by Maclachlan, one of at least four so far (although I think we might need a name for the version of Bad Coop we see in the jail  )

Which, to bring this on-topic, is very inland empire

This never occurred to me, but now that you pointed it out, it's as clear as day! What a beautiful thing.

I'd say it's more a coincidence than a deliberate reference, but Sarah Palmer watching a buffalo get killed on TV reminded me of Grace Zabriskie's character (Juana)'s "We hunt buffalo now" line in Wild at Heart.

Mary's Dad's arm went numb in Eraserhead, so a continuing link down the years there. I guess Lynch's characters must all sleep in strange positions. I have neck trouble and my left arm is frequently numb when I wake up!! ;)

Bad Coop saying "You did good" before shooting Hastings' wife and the Cowboy in Mulholland Drive.

Naomi Watts dramatically screeching "How could you?!!" at Dougie in the same way as Betty during her script read-through.

Ah, there was consternation over Mercedes product placement, something DKL says is "fuckin' bullshit."

Rewatched Lost Highway yesterday and there are two scenes of cars driving directly to the camera to fill the screen with the logo.

1) Detectives first tracking Pete: Big old FORD logo as their car drives up.

2) Mr. Eddy pulling into the garage for his tune up: Big old MERCEDES logo. Ah-ha! Same damn thing.

Ditto with the 'Lincoln' "product placement"; it reminded me of Blue Velvet:

* Evil Coop's snakeskin shirt: a symbol of his individuality, and his belief... in personal freedom. (WaH)
* The helpful casino worker lady (forget her name) shouting "he's leaving! he's leaving!" as Dougie shuffles out reminds me of "The Norwegian are leaving!" in the pilot. The actresses even look similar.

The characters played by Belushi and Knepper are basically (lazily) the Castigliani brothers again. The multiple shots of where a phone is ringing before we find out are pretty much from the same movie.

The casino gals being named Sandie/Mandie/Candie is similar to the naming system of the "Valley Girls" in IE (two of them were named Sandi and Mandi).

Bushnell Mullins (Don Murray's character / the Lucky 7 Insurance boss) is named in tribute to DKL's longtime friend and mentor, painter Bushnell Keeler.

I don't know I saw them more as a nastier, more violent version of the Horne brothers, especially with the showgirls behind them. They reminded me of the girls from One-Eyed-Jacks and made me think that the casino is a parallel to it, like Hap's Diner and the RR or Deer Meadow and Twin Peaks generally.

Knepper definitely gave me vibes of Jerry in "Buscemi mode" in Episode 8. But also Frank Booth of course.
