Although TR was quite a mess overall, and 17 and 18 didn't remedy that (i.e. no conclusion to characters like Sarah, Red, Becky/Shelly, etc) I still thought this was a great ending on its own terms, as a mindfuck Lynch movie. Albeit, Green Glove Man and Bouncing-Ball BOB was possibly the worst extended sequence of the entire TP run (especially the worst "serious" sequence)... but overall 17 was really strong and then 18 I found very compelling. It's hard to put these things into words. 18 was brilliant from the 430 switch onward especially. It will take a while to process, certainly, and doesn't change the fact that TR as a whole is such a convoluted, flawed piece of work. But I enjoyed this. And for the record, I knew we weren't going to see any more Audrey. Just knew it.

I wonder if Frost and Lynch are happy with The Return ? It kind of does feel like they wrote it back and forth over Skype rather than meeting up in person - a fractured storyline being pulled back and forth in very different directions. This is is somewhat reflected in what we see in the show as well - way too many scenes with people talking on the phone, which is not very cinematic (something new screenwriters are taught to avoid)

flawed. nope. 18 hours is a lot to ask of a human being. 18 hours to crush the hopes of a twin peaks fans is damn near impossible. 18 hours to crush the hopes of a twin peaks fan and make them ask for it is pure lynch.

For most of us inhabiting spirits I don't think episode 18 really mattered that much.
 The only thing that happened to me is that I have a case of a bad headache: I woke up at 2 am, could not fall asleep until 5 am (it was the "wtf" effect), and now it's 8 am. Luckily my coffee is ready.

So, what happens to those fine folks that own "Wrapped in Plastic" magazines? Do they disappear? Better check on 'em...

Episode 18 felt like an entirely different entity. Pretty much the closest to a post Inland Empire wilderness era David Lynch feature film you can imagine.

It is frustrating (although knowingly so, and I don't mind that0, but it's also so, so deeply haunting. I feel akin to the way I did when I saw Mulholland Drive for the first time.

I see what you mean, but the way the disposed of Mr C was such a letdown (not to say it was unexpected). Part 18 can be viewed on its own, and perhaps should have been the part 4 when Cooper got out of the lodge (so no Dougie and LV arc). The extended driving scene with Coop and Laura/Kate almost felt like the floor sweeping scene at a moment, and when they were being trailed by that car it felt as it time had stopped. What to say, except not repeat: what a wasted opportunity.

Haven't seen zmccain post here but I had to post his quote from the main thread just because it made me laugh so much.

"Brilliant!" "Masterful!" "Genius"

Yeah.

We just got fucked in the ass folks.

No @mlsstwrt, actually I think this thread and its posters got vindicated. We spoke truth when it was inopportune or unpopular, and it took some courage to do so.

No sorry I didn't give context, the quote was zmccain's reaction to the finale.

how on earth did people make it through twin peaks as it was up til now just to be disappointed in this? this was twin peaks 2017, I don't know what people expected. it's never going to cease to amaze me all the "fans" who after 25 years just turned into the modern versions of the people who got the show cancelled in the first place, or who threw a fit about fire walk with me. talk about a total lack of self-awareness here, what did you think twin peaks was until now? rhetorical question, I don't actually care.

Got it, thanks! I have completely stopped reading those threads a month or so ago, otherwise I would have seen it too I suppose.

Here are my two cents about this ...

- People who hated TR will most likely go on with their lives and never look back. Most of us just don't care enough to analize and discuss the show for the upcoming years like we did with the originals.

- TR will prove to have little to no rewatchibility allure, even for the hardcore fans.
