Re: "Hannibal" A Savory New Entree on NBC
I honestly think Hannibal is the best horror TV show in recent years, the high production value is is amazing. And it's refreshing to see a take on how someone on the brink of insanity perceives the world. Even if it's not like the books, one would be crazy not to give it a go. I'm already getting depressed knowing that the season is coming to a close.

It could well be you won't warm to the tv series as a long time fan of the books and some of the films. I hope you do, though.
Here's a quote from an interview with series creator Bryan Fuller: “When I sat down to the script, I was very consciously saying, ‘What would David Lynch do with a Hannibal Lecter character? What sort of strange, unexpected places would he take this world?’ I’m a great admirer of his work and his aesthetic and his meticulous sound design. Those were all components that I felt very strongly needed to be part of our Hannibal Lecter story. Between Lynch and [Stanley] Kubrick, there’s a lot of inspiration,” he said.
Well, you never know. I'm just picky about staying true to the original author's take. And it depends on how much I love the author. Like Anne Rice. Nobody's vampires can stand up to hers--NOBODY.
However, I love the quote about what David would do with Hannibal, aesthetically and with sound design. I am also sure David would never even look at Hannibal--he's already been developed as a character and David wouldn't want to do over anybody else's work. His best movies have not relied on books but stories he wrote himself.

I feel the same about some of Iain M. Banks's Culture novels. No other science fiction comes close. And I'd hate to see Hollywood get a shot at mutilating the Culture universe. Post-scarcity anarchists with profound machine intelligence in space. Not that that's likely to happen.

I'm holding a Hannibal marathon in anticipation of next week's season finale. Episode 12, of course, was superb.
I've seldom been so impressed with a first season since Twin Peaks.

One of my neighbours is an antisocial. I ate his liver.

Wouldn't it be cool to have one big Hannibal marathon as one big party. Dugpa Fest 2013! Let's go!

And what did you drink??? When you said marathon, I was thinking of the various TP marathons that lots of people attend. It sounds like you are having your own private marathon. I'm still jealous.Melong wrote:One of my neighbours is an antisocial. I ate his liver.

The idea is to watch two or three episodes a night in a quiet atmosphere on the flatscreen and finish before Friday. I like to begin immediately after dinner. It enhances the enjoyment to pretend to be a bit of a gourmet like Mads Mikkelsen's Hannibal.

Tonight episodes 11 & 12 with a glass of red wine (Chateau David 2010 Médoc, how appropriate). Friday brings episode 13!

The finale was top notch, can't wait to see what season two brings to the table. (Excuse the pun )

If you do, I hope you will enjoy the series as much as others here. A very satisfying story arc this season.
