Currently making my way through Völsungasaga, ( with the help of several glossaries and a couple of translations.) Swell, fairy-tale stuff. Better to adapt this than Tolkien, imo.

"Birdman" by Mo Hayder, for the second time. Had just read" Gone", and thought it ended too soon :-)

*sigh* The last book I read was Nicholas Sparks' The Last Song... it was for a book club assignment... and I really didn't like it very much... as a former English major and soon-to-be English teacher, I tell people this and they look at me with such shock. My taste usually runs towards classics (Dickens, Austen, Joyce, etc.) or pomo (Palahniuk, DeLillo, etc.)... .

I also recently finished Chuck Klosterman's Eating the Dinosaur and Malcolm Gladwell's What the Dog Saw.

I just finished with Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged." Anybody else out there reading intense classics? (If you have the patience and are conservative politically you will like it a LOT.) With Border's closing, I'm hoping for a few good deals to stock up, but so far, nothing.

William Hjortsberg's "Falling Angel" was the last book I read. I like hard-boiled detective stories and I love horror so I really enjoyed it. I'm planning on seeing the adaption, "Angel Heart" sometime in October for Halloween. I heard there are some similarities to "Twin Peaks"

We watched Angel Heart last night( for the nth time, this go-round on DVD upconverted to fake 1080p.)
The film adaptaton is superior to the novel and moderately faithful( though the climax is moved to NOLA, it works.) Almost as much graphic, sleazy nudity and sex as any given episode of Game Of Thrones, nqv (I trust that means ' which do not see '.)
Alan Parker does a wonderful job of conveying the creepy atmosphere while developing the plot nicely. Fine cinematograpy, music, acting and screenplay.
IMO, this stands with The Innocents as the epitome of the horror genre. IE ain't just a horror genre film, when all is said and done.

OK, well since I last posted in here, I've read "The Fountainhead" and am on my second reading; reread "Atlas Shrugged" and just ordered more of Ayn Rand. Oh and lots of other things that I doubt you'd be interested in for work.

Anne Rice is coming out with a wolf story in February, so that makes me happy. Since she renounced the Catholic Church again, it looks like no more angel books...

Currently reading Galactic Patrol, by E. E. "Doc" Smith. Part of the Lensman series. You know you're reading old sci-fi when the starship's engineer whips out his ever-present slide rule to solve equations....

Really?! I mean, I realise Poland is not far from Russia (geographically and culturally) but I can't really see why it would be difficult! I'd be very interested to hear any opinions from those who have read or even those who have heard opinions from those who have read... It's by far one of my favourite novels and in Poland it is easily considered one of the all-time best books, especially by those who aren't scared with a hint of fantasy introduced into the real world. Why, this book is a blast! Gotta read it again :D

By the way, last summer I saw a Mexican girl reading it (in English) on a train in Transsylvania! (she was just at the beginning, though, and I didn't ask her how she liked it or anything... yet the beginning is one of the best ever!)

George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. Read them first during the craze for HBO's Game of Thrones last year. I hope to take my time and enjoy the last three books more this time, as last year's publication deadline for Dance made me hurry too much.
