Thanks, I'm thinking about trying this version. I've never actually watched Dune, having been put off by the critical reception as well as that of Lynch himself.

You won't like it; go watch the original DUNE.

I finally got around to watching it, but not the original, I watched a fan cut on Youtube.

I gotta say, I actually loved it. I had tried reading the book some years ago and gave up when Paul was sticking his hand in the box: I had to give up, because I was having trouble 'seeing' the world and its gadgets, etc. The movie's designs were right up my alley, and you can see hints of Giger still remaining on that Harkonnen world.

Definitely a difficult film, certainly compromised, but I had a great night with it. One sequence I can't forget is when the ships are loading into that giant cylinder for interstellar travel: the design is so ornate and unlike anything I've seen in sci-fi. Wonderful.
