There’s been news about it! I believe it wrapped filming months ago and is due out this December (presumably the very lengthy post-production will involve a ton of visual effects). I believe Villeneuve is doing what Lynch had originally wanted to do, split the first book into two films, allowing for a much fuller world and better pacing.

Since the DUNE forums closed, I just haven't looked anywhere else for updates. I did find a Wikipedia page that says the movie is coming out on Dec. 18. 2020. Woo hoo!!

It’ll be interesting to see if Villeneuve adapts the subsequent novels. God Emperor of Dune seems almost unfilmable, so much of it is internal thoughts and exposition.

Jason Momoa is brilliant casting as Duncan Idaho. Book spoilers....
Spoiler:
As the one character who appears across all the Herbert books, it’s an important piece of casting. I’m not sure Richard Jordan would have been charismatic enough to carry the role in theoretical Lynch sequels.
