Brad,
To my ears, it sound like the guitarist is playing the Cm chord in 3rd position(and playing the full chord), so you'll hear the higher chord tones played that way. It could be done in 8th position, but that walking line leading to and from the chord sounds like it starts on the 5th string rather than the 6th.
