Re: TPTR and the Mythology of Twin Peaks

For the record, I think the Black Lodge was mentioned twice- once by DoppelCoop and once by Hawk. Oh right thanks. But that actually supports my feeling that they wanted to suggest that the Lodges were really just perhaps the local Native American concept of what those places are, and that the trut...

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return

The 'existentialism 101' line from Charlie nods (perhaps only half-seriously) at a Sartrean influence. Huis Clos would be my guess, though Sartre is a staple reference when it comes to identity crisis in film (e.g. it's predictable that John Cusack's character owns a copy of Being and Nothingness: A...

I watched Kafka (1991) with Jeremy Irons the other day, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lynch was influenced by that a little. It reminded me of The Return anyway. Good movie!
One of my favourites. I hope he was influenced by this.

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

Whether there will be a 4th season of Twin Peaks is too early to say, [David Lynch] told the crowd, adding that if the series would continue, fans would have to be extremely patient. Again. “It took me four and a half years to write and film this season.” Well I for one can be 'extremely patient'. ...

Re: Blair Witch 2 Re-Cut

Good work. I'm not usually a big supporter of fan edits but this piques my interest. It probably helps that I am one of the few that actually liked BoS (more than Blair Witch itself, strangely enough) but I always felt it was marred by too much spectacle. Beneath the surface was a really creepy idea...

Re: Season 3 Magazine Coverage and Articles Worldwide

It is interesting. But isn't the writer projecting himself onto Lynch's art too? He's not denying that fact, but his interpretation of The Return is pretty definitive in his eyes. I'm quite confident Lynch did not set out to cleverly examine the insidious nature of whites among other races. Jade is...

Re: Season 3 Magazine Coverage and Articles Worldwide

This is a strange article. I guess you can see whatever you want in fiction. http://www.vulture.com/2017/09/david-lynch-racial-politics.html Terrific article. The gnarly roots of Americana in Lynch are an always fertile ground for exploration. I agree with the author's views on David Foster Wallace...

Re: Part 17 - The past dictates the future (SPOILERS)

There has been much speculation over the motivation of Mr. C throughout this season -- what is his goal, where is he going, and why. It's worth pointing out that when Mr. C showed the modified ace-of-spades playing card to Darya early on in this season he indicated that it was something he wanted. F...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

Part 18 ended with all the electricity gone...what more can you do? (Not that I wouldn't be happy if season 4 would be announced tomorrow...) Call in the tech. Two dishevelled and world-weary types arrive, spend a few minutes circling round things and uhmming and aaahing, then one of them pipes us,...

Re: So is there anyone else who prefers The Return to the original?

If I were to use a particularly convoluted series of metaphors to typify how I feel, these would be: The original series is an exquisitely carved and detailed wooden owl, lovingly varnished in varying tones of the forest, that has pride of place on a shelf. The new series is a steel cube containing ...

Incidentally, although it was a while ago now and most people will have seen it, this was tweeted from Mark Frost: https://twitter.com/mfrost11/status/906648406570831872 https://i.imgur.com/fZxjEzX.png Amusing to imagine Frost emerging from that elevator, Phillip Jeffries style, muttering 'we're not...

Re: Annie and Dale

I don't disagree with you. I'm not trying to justify this as a creative choice, personally I think it's a bad choice. Reducing Norma's sister to 'some girl' is a terrible way to carry on. It's better in some ways not to mention her at all than to mis-credit Annie as a random no-one. Sadly though it...

Same.

It's quite a complex differential equation. The thing she's reacting to is partially a function of her own actions.

Re: So is there anyone else who prefers The Return to the original?

I also think it's telling there were some fans -- on both the disappointed and enraptured side -- who read the presentation of scenes like Ed and Norma's reunion as being so grandiose it was cynical. I think that says more about the audience than about the work. To me that scene is one of absolute,...
