Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I don't believe that any of you will come around based on the final four Parts, nor should you be expected to. But I do think it's important to note what eyeboogers is probably meaning to say. Which isn't that the final parts will be so good that they'll make you like everything that came before th...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Violent crime is way lower. 1991 was the peak. "Today, the national crime rate is about half of what it was at its height in 1991. Violent crime has fallen by 51 percent since 1991, and property crime by 43 percent. In 2013 the violent crime rate was the lowest since 1970. And this holds true ...

Re: Twin Peaks The Return: The Mixed/Moderately Disappointed Thread

The Lodge stuff has been pretty hit or miss. I liked Laura's scene, especially when she's sucked away, and I like visual of the lodge being infinite, with the curtains raised and revealing the floor going on and on. But there's the odd flatness in the way it's depicted - I chalk it up just as much ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I really thought the fog looked amazing on my TV. That atmosphere seemed perfectly conjured for the scene. I hope I don't think less of it on second viewing. I didn't even notice the fog!!!! Oops Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Oh it wasn't good. It looked like the machine had just pumped it out...

Re: Part 14 - We are like the dreamer (SPOILERS)

''The exposition scenes in particular aren't necessary for padding'' one thing i noticed about these exposition scenes pretty early on, in the '' this is the chair'' episode, was that, over and over again in TP TR, something happens, and then you hear it described verbally, so i have been seeing wh...

Re: Part 14 - We are like the dreamer (SPOILERS)

For me this episode, in contrast to the past few parts highlighted why The Return can be a bit polarising for me. The scenes that feel the most alive and exhilarating are those that engage primarily through visual, intuitive film-making - scenes like the extended Naido/woods scene, or the Sarah Pal...

Re: RE: Re: Part 14 - We are like the dreamer (SPOILERS)

This might be kind of a far-out idea, but does anyone else get the feeling that Lynch might be doing something overtly meta with this season of Twin Peaks, almost like when Stephen King wrote himself into The Dark Tower? Gordon Cole has been such a huge, central character in this iteration and I th...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

To not derail further- regarding the jack rabbit's scene- the fog machine looked bad in digital, not at all like the fog in the dark corridor of Lost Highway. Very film school. I really thought the fog looked amazing on my TV. That atmosphere seemed perfectly conjured for the scene. I hope I don't ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Most of the FX remind me very much of Švankmajer, etc and I'm sure that's deliberate. The outlet journey, OTOH, I felt looked very sophisticated. (Incidentally, I also think the CG on Jurassic Park still outshines most of today's.) I don't get the complaints about stuff like Jack Rabbits' Palace - ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Very good call. I think the effects are what they are and what they are supposed to be, and they fit Lynch's background and artwork. I also remember you saying something about Borowczyk before and wanted to tell you that you're a hero for being into him! Ha! Thanks! I was one of the Kickstarter con...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Regarding the special effects - yeah a lot of them aren't great. I don't know I feel about them. But, again, there is a precedent. Well come on, that's hardly an apt comparison. The effects remind me of the kind of animations created by Walerian Borowczyk, Jan Švankmajer and Terry Gilliam (who ackn...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

See, visual effects often come down to personal taste, because I find that the effects in the original Jurassic Park film hold up to this day. That's because they mostly used animatronics and only used the CGI sparingly, and masked the limitations with lighting and rain. Those dinosaurs feel more r...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Hmmm. The roach/frog looked as good as anything I've ever seen. Jurassic Park, whatever. IMO. Well, the original Jurassic Park effects are very dated today. They've been surpassed by many miles. Like I said, as good as anything. I see everything, so I'm not limiting myself to Jurassic Park. Jurassi...
