Re: Fire Walk With Me - First impressions

I have to confess that I don't care for the film. The style of the film is fine, but I am annoyed by how the mythos was changed. I think the mythos in the series is a lot cleaner: There is an evil living in the woods surrounding the town, and it possesses the townspeople to a greater or lesser exten...

Re: List your 5 favorite episodes ?

Without reading the other responses, I have to say that a particular favorite of mine is the episode where Audrey meets Battis at Horne's, Bobby goes for family counseling with Jacoby, and Shelly shoots Leo. Of course, this episode is topped off with the BEAUTIFUL montage of the raven, the visit wit...

Re: When did you first see Twin Peaks?

I first saw it during the second run of the first season. I was about 12 at the time. I think it's one of the few things I have been exposed to that was really DARK. Like, REALLY DARK. I am glad that I saw it at that time in my life, because it taught me a lot, and I can see now how deeply it has sh...

Re: Book recommendations for a die-hard TP fan?

Sadly, there is only one Twin Peaks, but I think a TP fan might enjoy the following books. "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt, and "No Night is Too Long" by Barbara Vine/Ruth Rendell, are both very good books with a brooding mood and some pretty terrific plot twists. "The S...

Re: I need some language help with the "Let's Rock" phrase

"Let's party!" is probably a better translation than "let's dance!," but "let's go!" or "let's do this!" might be closer still. "To rock" is a slang term. For example, if you did really well on a test, you could say that you rocked it. If you went to...

Re: Introductions

I'm Blackie. I live in California. I first saw Twin Peaks when I was 12. (My mom is SO APPALLED she let me watch it.) I didn't really get into any of Lynch's other stuff until I saw Mulholland Drive, which might be the only film I have seen three times in the theater. I've also seen it 50+ times sin...

Re: What would MULHOLLAND DR. THE SERIES have been like?

I did a rewatch last night and I'm not sure that the series would have been as good as the film. People like stories. Twin Peaks was full of stories, and some of them got resolved and some of them didn't. After the main story got resolved, ratings sank because there was no longer a compelling narrat...

Re: Music

Modest Mouse and Radiohead are 90% of what goes down in this house. Modest Mouse is from Issaquah, which is right down the road from Snoqualmie. They've got a natty little version of "In heaven, everything is fine" in front of "Workin' on Leavin' the Living." Their best songs are...

Re: Wild Palms

I saw that back in the day.

Good stuff... Dana Delaney in particular gave a memorable performance.

I think the comparisons to TP were basically just "Something's going down here and I don't get it, but it's visually stunning, so I'll compare it to TP." :P

Three questions about MD

Mulholland Drive is my most favorite film ever. I've read quite a bit of discussion and speculation about the film, but there are a few assertions that I've seen made that I'm not on board with--yet. 1. I have seen the assertion made that there is a pregnancy/abortion plot. 2. I have seen the assert...

Re: What Scenes take you out of the moment or make you cringe?

The fire at the mill.

It's such an obvious set it's distracting from the (supposed) drama of the scene.
