Did Sheryl Lee's stirring performance as Laura in FWWM surprise him after only working with her previously as Maddie (except in that flashback)? Since Lynch caught up with the Palmer family and found out what they've been up to since, what does he think James is doing 25 years later?

Another thought (not strictly related): In the deleted scene, where Laura is staring at the ceiling fan, and slowly grinning, it seems that BOB is using the circular motion of the fan to hypnotise her! He says "See what we can do?", referring to the incident at Harold Smith's house, when ...

It appears that, as of now, Between Two Worlds is the conclusion/last word/epilogue on TP. Laura's last words certainly leave the door open for more, which I think gives Lynch that option should he chose to do something more down the road.

"Shockingly bad"! Sometimes Ebert got it really wrong (as he did with Blue Velvet). I'll never understand how his opinion of Lynch flipped so suddenly when Mulholland Dr. came out.
