Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
You're saying the word "need" again when no one is making any such demands, just that the value of DKL's past work contains women as human beings. What's the difference between calling artwork reckless if It doesn't meet certain requirements and saying it need's to meet those requirements...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
This is where we disagree. Art does not have a responsibility to convey women in any specific way. And to say it does isn't really different then to create other guidelines that it should follow. It doesn't, but people can react accordingly. And I stress again that in this case I think Peaks ' own ...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
I'm still not following you. The story doesn't need to go any specific direction for it be "worth spending time with". & now you are using the world careless. What exactly would be careless about it? Well, dang. I guess we're getting into a broader conversation about what you want art...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
I'm just really not understanding the correlation between violence against women and the concept of a payoff. There is also a difference between saying Cooper should return soon and what's being shown is reckless and unjustified. If we spend however many minutes watching Cooper slowly return to hum...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
I'm just hoping The Return comes to more honestly and complexly offer payoff to one of its own fascinations, as other Lynch works have. I'm just really not understanding the correlation between violence against women and the concept of a payoff. There is also a difference between saying Cooper shou...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
Granted it doesn't help that many of them are dead, but we've seen nothing of the girl Richard assaulted at the Roadhouse, for example. It is something, I feel, that really has to come through at some point before the end of the series to justify the amount of time the series has focused on violenc...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
It doesn't matter what his goal is. The concern is with the text and what it ends up accomplishing. ... Huh? Don't be obtuse, please. The payoff everyone is talking about is making the suffering significant and human, in Lynch's tradition, since EH and BV.. Why does Twin Peaks need to accomplish an...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
& lots of people keep saying it's reckless and unjustifiable to show violence against women unless there is a "payoff". Huh? That's no different then saying you can't tell a scary story unless there is a happy ending. This is demented! Exactly! And to think that Dustoff is talking abo...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
I just don't get why posters are referring to this as "reckless" or "irresponsible"? How can art be those things? An artist has no responsibility

Definitely the 30's room while the record was spinning. It reminded me of some of my favorite early 30's gangster pictures. Like this scene in Night After Night http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xr/526811860.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=3&d=77BFBA49EF878921CC759DF4EBAC47D012E178C75C599FE27E59B529EA2...

Re: Part 10 - Laura is the one (SPOILERS)
I guess my other thought with Steven Burnett and my disappointment in episode 10 is... if he really is hitting Becky couldn't they have come up with something more original for this storyline? When Sheriff Truman had a substance abuse problem he didn't go around hitting women. So it would seem they...
