Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

I think the conclusion of season 3 works brilliantly as an ending, but I also have no problem viewing it as a cliffhanger. If we get another season then a part of me will mourn for what felt like a powerful final statement, but I am confident that Lynch (and potentially Frost) will be able to take u...

Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

Lynch isn’t the same director now as he was thirty years ago, but he has never been afraid of frustrating or alienating parts of the audience. It seems plausible to me that a version of the first two seasons directed entirely by Lynch might have turned some people off in the same way many were turne...

Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

It’s true that casual viewers don’t generally pay much attention to television directors, but there are exceptions. Many fans of the Boba Fett series noticed the difference in style between the episodes directed by Robert Rodriguez and those directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, with the former often bei...

It’s been posted before, but this article from just before the Return does a decent job articulating a lot of this: https://www.vulture.com/2017/05/twin-pe ... t-was.html

Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

I wonder how much Lynch would even distinguish between the quality of say, episode 6 and episode 20. He’s acknowledged that season 2 became “ridiculous” but I suspect that he’s more bothered by seeing “his” characters doing and saying things he didn’t write or direct than by any fluctuations in qual...

Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

I think Lynch loved the idea of a continuing story but was entirely ill-equipped to deal with the realities of how 90s network television operated. An artist used to focussing on minute details such as dust-mites in the background of a scene was never going to be a great at breaking a story and then...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

I primarily perceive Lynch as an artist, in the broadest sense of the word, and not strictly filmmaker, and I believe that he sees The Return as his work of art, so I think that there is no way that he would let anyone else direct Twin Peaks ever again. Imagine if someone else wanted to write the p...

I’ve learnt not to get my hopes up, but over Christmas Lynch was saying he was working with “wood, electricity and coffee”. I can certainly think of one Lynch project which includes all these elements.

Re: Alternate Cuts/Versions of Films? The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I think the appeal of these is more for fans of the books who want to see certain scenes adapted, not for those who want them to feel more coherent in a film sense. Interestingly, the one scene you mention as the best example of something not working is something unique to the film and occured way ...

Re: Alternate Cuts/Versions of Films? The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

It seems to be widely accepted that the extended cuts of the Lord of the Rings trilogy are superior to the theatrical cuts, but I think they are full of scenes that severely affect the pacing, or feel out of place on their own terms. Fellowship is probably best served by the added scenes, but by Ret...

Re: For Those Who Were (Mostly) Satisfied with The Return

Ok, since it says 'mostly satisfied', I will air my one grievance on this thread. The one scene I have a hard time slogging through, that competes with how I felt about the worst part of Season 2, is the Wally Brando scene. It somewhat hurts my enjoyment of Part 4, which would otherwise be one of m...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

I agree with Audrey that a lot of season 1’s personality came from Peyton, and the inspiration he drew from classic film. There’s a snappiness and slickness to those episodes that season 3 completely lacks, for better or worse.
