Re: An apologia for Sarah

I think you're on the money about what they were doing thematically. I think it's frustrating when people interpret it like 'Sarah was the real evil all along', or that Leland was holding her back from perpetrating true evil.

Re: Season 3 clips with old Twin Peaks music (SPOILERS)

It makes it feel very comfortingly conventional, and one of the most interesting things about these episodes was how airy and cold they were. Fantastic stuff! Bad Coop without that music goes a bit to a comical direction, although sure his first scene where he blocked the guy trying to hit him with ...

Re: Parts 1 + 2 (Spoilers)

I find the literalism complaints odd, given it's all on par with what we got in FWWM (I am the arm and I sound like this, the good Coop is in the black lodge, etc).

Re: NON SPOILERS: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Showtime Thread

IMDB has no credibility really; anything that has an online fanbase is severely overrated, and any great challenging films made this century (and therefore not part of the canon yet) are severely underrated. If Coulson didn't film much material (which I assume to be the case given how early in produ...

Re: NON SPOILERS: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Showtime Thread

I'm still excited, as I said I'm not going to spoil anything. I'm looking forward to talk about it tomorrow. Anyway, if someone wants to ask me something in private i'm available to answer you... but do specific questions (i've got no time or english skills to make a decent review) but my piece of ...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

The tricky thing about critical responses is you have to know what their narrative assumptions and aesthetic values are before taking what they say seriously or not. For example, if they value traditional cause and effect, tight/quick pacing, and generic plot structure, then they probably won't be ...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

Jonah wrote:How important are ratings to an outfit like Showtime? All the buzz the revival is generating on social media has to be good for them, even if the ratings aren't huge.
The question is how many people is it enticing to subscribe and whether that number justifies what they've spent on it.

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

I really hope the ending is reasonably closed. There's a very real possibility that this performs below Showtime's expectations.

Re: Season 3 Opening scene speculation

I'm pretty resistant to the idea of Laura Palmer still being alive. Fire Walk With Me would lose a great deal of its power. It could be well handled so I'd try to judge it on its own merits, but I don't think not being an exercise in nostalgia has to mean lessening the beauty of what they achieved b...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

Hollywood's warped focus on the director being the creator rather than the writer (which then spread to the rest of the world), has been highly detrimental to the quality of films in general. This is why TV has become the home for actual cinematic storytelling of high quality. Putting the writer/cr...

Re: One reason to worry about the quality of Season 3

Agree with OP. Also, the aerial drone shots of the woods ... l preferred the shots of the mountainside from ground level, in the original series, because as a human, l could identify with that, whereas the aerial shots are for birds. Let's not forget that Twin Peaks features a literal birds eye vie...

Re: is there any other show that even comes close to your obsession with TP?

I think in terms of sheer mindless addiction I was more obsessed with LOST, although I for sure love and at that respect Twin Peaks more just out of sheer artistry. The only other TV show which comes close in the department of subversive art is all the way over in Japan, with Evangelion. Seconding ...
