Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)

OK- I've watched Part 9 a second time now, and it sat better with me. I feel the push-pull dynamic that can throw me, and a lot of you I'm sure, is that The Return cannot decide when it wants to be a TV show, and exploit the 'episode' format, and when it wants to be runtime in an 18 hour film. I thi...

Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)

This is going to be a long one. I hate to feel this way, I've loved every moment of The Return so far, but Part 9 left me cold. I've admittedly always felt a little uneasy at all the very linear, Secret History, connect-the-dots, kind of mystery that this season has sometimes strayed into. I feel it...

Re: Favourite part so far (SPOILERS)

- The opening of Part 1; the re-edited old footage, the way Twin Peaks Theme returns, Laura's face over the rushing water. - Cooper in Part 6, all of it. Maybe it's seeing a beloved character so distanced from himself, or my sensitivity to 'lost child' stories, but his scenes just break my heart; st...

Re: Part 8 - Gotta light? (SPOILERS)

I don't care if I repeat sentiments people have already voiced, I had to wait a day too see it. It was phenomenal. Best moments for me: -When one of the ghostly Woodsmen lifts DoppelCoop's lifeless, bloodied head, and turns it to look at Ray, while distant muffled cries can be heard. -The Woodsman s...

Re: General Discussion on the New Series (All Opinions Welcome) (SPOILERS)

So bored of ratings/success and money. I read when The Return premiered that some did not like the Black Lodge, or Red Room. I tried to convince myself otherwise, but I don't feel entirely secure with it. I loved the wild CG, and the nuanced performances by Ray Wise and Sheryl Lee. I loved the "...

Re: Part 7 - There's a body all right (SPOILERS)

Damn, I needed that scene with Andy. I always felt that Andy changed dramatically after the Pilot. He was tough in my eyes, almost quietly intense with Bobby at the High School and at the Palmer house. And yet, he took his work home with him; he couldn't keep from breaking down during the Laura Palm...

Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)

Part 5 was, for me, a low-key triumph. I'm really settling into it now. The music was so welcome, even though there was little of it. Best of all was the quietly moving use of Windswept as Cooper stroked the statue's feet. With that low evening light and Cooper looking forgotten about, but having no...

Re: NON SPOILERS: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Showtime Thread

I feel that the musical endings can often color how I feel coming away from a Part. The ending to Parts 1 & 2 was near 'The World Spins' level of goosebumps for me. Parts 3 & 4 not so much, I guess it's down to preference and taste.

Re: POLL! Your reaction to Twin Peaks: The Return, pts. 1 through 4

Re-watching it improved it greatly in my mind. When I read The Secret History, I thought that Frost was placing Twin Peaks in a larger, broader context. The original two seasons and the film were self-contained, self-perpetuating and isolated in their own sphere. This season has placed Twin Peaks, i...
