Re: Cooper's lost soul

I always figured the Theresa Banks murder marked the beginning of Leland's relatively quick descent into lunacy. It's when he started to get full of holes, so to speak. I wonder if Bob was as stricken by Maddy as Leland, and just couldn't resist killing her again. I think BOB was, yes. But I think ...

Re: Cooper's lost soul

I watched most of FWWM again in full for the first time in awhile last night, and my opinion has not changed over the years on a lot of what Lost asks - I think Leland/BOB knows exactly who Gerard is in the traffic jam scene. I think it's always a delicate balance in FWWM especially as to who is in ...

Re: Suggestions for episode 17 - 28 recap

Today, I take the weaker episodes as part of the town of Twin Peaks struggling to reconcile itself with what's happened. Trying to deny it all and go back to screwball small town comedy. I enjoy it as part of the tapestry. And even when some stories are very weak, there's often dialogue, plotlines o...

Re: Suggestions for episode 17 - 28 recap

Frankly, my response would be, 'fuck that, watch all of it.' There's still good amidst the detritus, and I think it would be a terrible mistake to skip anything, certainly not 23-28, which IMO is the stretch when the show finds its footing again.

Re: Cooper's lost soul

I don't agree that he wouldn't abandon Leland, but let's say for the sake of argument that the lodge spirits can inhabit multiple hosts. He sets up Leland for the fall, and gets to harvest all his fears while he is incarcerated until he is executed- unless he manages to get a verdict of innocence b...

Re: Cooper's lost soul

It begs the question, though, if BOB ever leaves a host without completely destroying it. I don't know that I believe that. I don't think most people who have Lodge spirits in them tend to just walk away and pick up their lives. Gerard has lived with MIKE for years. Personally, I can't see BOB givin...

Re: Cooper's lost soul

Here's a question I've never quite asked, and don't know where to put, relating slightly back to the current discussion: What did BOB plan to do in that train car, if he truly wanted to take Laura for a host, and if killing Laura only happened once she put on the ring? Was he going to possess her an...

Re: Writing Twin Peaks

It really, really is, and I don't agree with all of it - I think there are too many varied independent voices out there claiming Lynch's authorial hand was strong in the first season to be put aside. Whether the facts or timeline bear it all out is another story, but I think 25 years on it's really ...

Re: Farewell, Catherine Coulson

My uncle was a drifter who had been mostly off the grid for years; he died of brain cancer last Friday. I wept for my mother, because she knew him, I barely did. Today, though, strange and perhaps sick as it is, I feel like I know the Log Lady better than I knew my uncle.

Re: Farewell, Catherine Coulson

I'm sure they will find a way to handle it in the story as classily as possible. I said this differently in another thread, but my heart goes out to the long, longtime members of the fandom who did know and befriend Ms. Coulson and watched her carry the flame (and keep the log) for so many years. Th...

Re: Episode 11

Jerry Stahl was an up and coming writer for TV in the '80s and early '90s, who worked on ALF , Moonlighting and thirtysomething . He was talented but had a nasty heroin addiction. According to Mark Frost (IIRC) and others, he was brought in to write Episode 11 on someone's recommendation, but what h...

Re: Lost vs. Twin Peaks - A Comparison

I became more avidly involved with watching Lost when it became known that they were under network pressure to get their shit together and develop a real timetable for following through on their storylines and then ending the show. That was Season 4, and that's when they began just rolling the show ...

Re: The Tojamura Twist

I honestly can't recall. I was very young and I do remember missing Catherine terribly for early Season 2, as she was a favorite. I still think they mishandled some of that, at least in terms of Joan Chen (who was apparently unavailable for part of that time). But I love the twist today, politically...

Re: Lost vs. Twin Peaks - A Comparison

I mean, Lost ran for six seasons with a cast of thousands, was heavily promoted year after year, was publicly feted throughout its finale year with the kind of pomp and circumstance reserved for what it was - a long-running ratings-winner - as well as all throughout the week of its big ending. By co...

Re: Lost vs. Twin Peaks - A Comparison

Yeah, that piece didn't change my opinion on the show, but I did admire their dedication and it made me realize that many of the writers at the show wanted much more. I just don't know where the circuit failed between all that creativity and the final execution. (Or maybe I'm the one failing.) I jus...
