Re: **LISTEN TO THE SOUNDS** - I've completed a 16.5 hour long downloadable "audiobook" version of Season 3.

This seems pretty darn neat. And also is on the right track to what it is I'd really like, which is a continuous film version of The Return with only one opening credits and one closing credits. All footage in tact in order but without credits as one long movie experience. I'd definitely check that ...

Re: Top of the Lake v.2 compared to TPTR (spoilers)

I'd also noticed a lot of similarities between the two programs, both in terms of themes and especially unpredictability. I've said all year long, or, well, since September, that China Girl is the only thing that approaches The Return's wild unconventionality.

Re: the Missing Pieces

Rewatched The Missing Pieces as I'm in the midst of my full rewatch of everything. I hadn't ever really thought about it and honestly forgot about it up until I saw it again, but when MFAP tells Cooper "There is nowhere to go...BUT HOME!" what does he mean? What did people take it to mean ...

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

Agreed. Ashbrook was the perfect anchor to that scene and I couldn't imagine it without his presence, nor did I ever question his presence. Especially since it fits into the Twin Peaks in microcosm encapsulation provided by the wild mood and genre swings of that entire sequence starting with the pa...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Regarding the red door - it's odd that one of the few sudden, non-vegetative things that Dougie does is gasp with surprise when he first sees the red door. I always wondered why. Does he gasp at the red door, or is he gasping at the driver suddenly appearing to open the car door? It's not quite cle...

Re: Poll: Worst Roadhouse performance

Roger Ebert didn't like The Thing. Was Ebert "right" about the film since he was a respected critic? Fans of The Thing may call his review out for misunderstanding the point of the movie, while haters of the film could use it as an example of his abilities or qualifications. It's all in t...

Re: Poll: Worst Roadhouse performance

In another post you've said that all criticism is valid which is fair enough in a general sense of appreciating all viewpoints. However, I would argue that some criticism is MORE VALID. Fans being negative about the Lissie performance are not being reasonable or thinking about its placement in the ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Heh, that’s a neat point about Jacoby and Norma. That gives me a new appreciation for the rather cliché/rushed Walter storyline. It’s definitely a pretty weak storyline, but it’s not that terrible either; it has its merits. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk I am perfectly good with the Walter storyl...

NormoftheAndes wrote:That's like saying there is no known connection between the Giant and the Fireman. The American Girl is Ronette - but she is shown in a place where her identity is hidden, or she has become an abstraction.
I think you're on to something there.

Re: Poll: Worst Roadhouse performance

I can't believe Lissie got the most votes - I thought it was great! And it's probably one of my most played songs from the soundtrack. It might be joyous but it's not vapid - it has substance. I think it also acts of a kind of palate cleanser for the end of that episode. Also (and I know you can do...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

And yet, in a supreme act of anti-fan service, L/F DID revisit the Cooper-Audrey dynamic, for a few seconds’ worth of casual exposition explaining that some version of Cooper raped Audrey. And IMO that storytelling choice, if you’re going to go there, needs to be justified. As much as I really love...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

That’s bizarre that it would be hard to see how Audrey would be there at the end, especially since the structure of the story had flip Cooper father her child out of rape, and that her surprise moment before the finale was revealing that she too was sidelined in some alternate reality prison for tw...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I like 17 and 18, but I like 18 a lot more as an ending. Despite its ambiguity, it's 18 that really brought all the themes together and tied everything into a neat little bow, relatively speaking. One major theme is identity, and the sex scene is a huge part of driving that home. As Reindeer notes,...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I totally forgot this (terrific) TPU podcast exists, with Peyton talking about S3 (it’s right at the beginning of the podcast): http://twinpeaksunwrapped.podbean.com/mobile/e/twin-peaks-unwrapped-122-harley-peyton/ He at one point calls the show worlds beyond what anyone else is doing in television...
