Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?
omg Jonah, the whole sequence from when the bullet goes into the diner until the girl pukes is one of my favorite in the whole series. In fact, at one time I rated it as my favorite sequence of the whole series. It's one of those things I guess that either you get or you don't, based primarily on t...

Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?
fuller realization of Lynch's aesthetic for television and deconstruction of the hero. ... for better or for worse Until there’s a book about it, I’m not taking a generic, glowing review at face value. Anyone in media or publishing knows DL is a genius, and that they risk looking like an idiot if t...

Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?
I wonder if Martha Nochimson has done a Vedic/ universal field theory analysis on S3. I’d love to find out if she was profoundly disappointed. I have a lot to say about these last couple pages but for now I will just tell you that Martha loved it, essentially stating that it is the first thing in a...

Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?
Just wanted to say how wonderful it is to see some praise for Frost's books, namely The Secret History. It's clear that a lot of work went into it, and I've always felt that it provides a wonderful companion and guide to the deeper layers of The Return, from the continuity "errors" to the ...

Re: The Random Twin Peaks Thread
I don't really see how that debunks or confirms anything, really. Also, if the character we saw for the majority of the time, then who was the (seemingly much different) Audrey who was looking in the mirror? Or are they the very same? The disheveled hair and no makes me think: no, not at all. I got...

Re: Re-imagining Twin Peaks as a Network Show in the 2020's
I feel like even though cable has become more cutting-edge if anything network has become less risk-averse again. What was the last exciting groundbreaking network show? I feel Lost but even that was very commercial in its own right. I haven't really kept up with anything since but I can't remember...

Re: The Random Twin Peaks Thread
Bit of a tinfoil hat theory, the intros to S1 and S2 are obviously just showing the town because it takes place in the town of Twin Peaks. But S3 shows the Red Room and Jack Rabbit’s Palace/The White Lodge Woods in the intro. Was this purposely to show that S3 takes place entirely in the Red Room l...

The original: “Look Balaki,” the king said. “Do you see that spider?” “Yes,” said Balaki, “I see the spider moving along its web.” “We are like the spider,” said the king. “We weave our life, and then move along in it. We are like the dreamer who dreams and then lives in the dream. “This is true fo...

Yes, Richard Beymer was excellent. I really liked Ashley Judd too. I wouldn't say any of their scenes were weak, nor would I describe them even as stories. All we really get are glimpses into their existence - which is quite something when The Return runs 17 hours! The Return isn't about storylines...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)
I thought Ben's story was a wonderfully infuriating slice-of-life story that was one of the stronger arcs in S3. A man tormented by guilt, the grievances of a childhood deficit in paternal support, and the materialist replacements that he's surrounded himself with since adolescence. Throughout the ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)
In terms of the jokey comment I added to about a Twin Peaks universe, I really only meant in terms of broadening the scope of the show from purely Lynch taking the helm as with The Return. Certainly, if you have so many hours of Lynch is it really going to be as intense in feel in terms of his inpu...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)
Although Rebekah's voice usually strikes me as a hurricane, her ''rancho rosa'' was the puff of wind for me. As for two projects, I almost always believed Wisteria was not Twin Peaks, and I also never believed the prospect of more Peaks was fully discarded. ''never say never''. I still have serious...

Thread here. https://www.reddit.com/r/criterion/comments/f8cuiv/_/fikwi11 Wisteria was a working title for Unrecorded Night, per Production Weekly. So I guess you could say it didn't exist yet it did, to paraphrase Laura Palmer. Yes, he clearly states the 13 episode "mini movies" in there...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)
He said they'd changed the format to 13 episodes before the copyright filings were made public by the library of Congress. I'm not aware of this and I follow this thread pretty closely. Got any links? Going off memory, I think he said it almost instantly when he referred to the project possibly con...
