Re: The Unorthodox/Controversial TP Opinion Thread

What i'm trying to say is that it's really hard, almost impossible to recapture the zeitgeist. Twin Peaks was very much a product of its time. Of course it's really hard to do that. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen - we are seeing it constantly in the last five years. We are in an age of nostalg...

Re: The Unorthodox/Controversial TP Opinion Thread

Like LostInTheMovies said, even at it's popularity peak, Twin Peaks was NEVER a "hit", per se. The media overhypes it so much because, again, like LITM said, "David Lynch does TV" sells magazines. Parsing the ratings aside, the show was absolutely a cultural juggernaut in '90. Y...

Re: The Unorthodox/Controversial TP Opinion Thread

Controversial opinion: Twin Peaks is my all time favorite show. But unlike some board members, I have a clear notion that TP2017 is not a big deal for the majority of today's TV audience, let alone "one of the most anticipated shows of the decade" like someone said. Lower your fanboyism. ...

Re: 'The Secret History of Twin Peaks' novel by M. Frost 10/

Nah. Everything we heard at the outset and a lot we've heard since would suggest the book covers everything from the 18th century to somewhere after the series, and possibly up to the present day. When you hear talk about 'emails' being among the correspondence incorporated into the text, we're kind...

Re: 'The Secret History of Twin Peaks' novel by M. Frost 10/

This is an interview made by the local newspaper in Frosts hometown, and it was made and published before those press releases you speak of. This is first hand. But go ahead, deny it with all you got. Maybe MJA will appear afterall!? Quote from Frost in an interview with Ojai Quarterly: Currently, ...

Re: 'The Secret History of Twin Peaks' novel by M. Frost 10/

I'm pretty sure we had that intv in before and eventually argued ourselves against it. And no, for the fifth time, I do not think the book only covers to the end of the original series. I think people are just getting hung up on dubious wording from various articles and press releases which often co...

The good news is I'm evidently younger than many of you (earlyish 30s), so I'll be alright.

Re: Recommendations for Watching While Waiting for Season 3

Mostly repeating a lot of stuff others already said: Top of the Lake , from director Jane Campion. (On Netflix in the US) The Returned (Les Revenants) . The original French series. (Also on US Netflix) Broadchurch from the UK - the first series, at least - owes a huge debt to TP and WKLP in its main...

Re: The Unorthodox/Controversial TP Opinion Thread

I have little to no problem with episode 16. I think it's Frost translating Lynch's dream logic, as I think he often did, and I don't think all of Cooper's conclusions can be taken as gospel but I also think they have a double meaning - what Cooper deduces them as, Holmes-style vs. what they actuall...

I suspect they did too. I'm still a bit flummoxed that they're now aiming for Q2, but I guess that's Lynch's insistence.

Re: The Unorthodox/Controversial TP Opinion Thread

I love the whole show, warts and all, including the 'bad' episodes from the middle of Season 2, and some of that is bad. But I think even at its worst the show is better-written and put together than a lot of TV even today. There's a reason it remains timeless. The truth is that Lynch was not cut ou...

I wasn't looking for it specifically. And I was incredibly bored, searching YT for TP promos I hadn't seen. It came up, the date matched, I was curious, voila.
