Re: Images

It's a great book. The 'dental' stuff is a tad silly though, it's telling that Lynch didn't continue down that path, but the smoke and nude images are superb in that book. I bought it new back in the day, it's worth quite a bit nowadays, you got a good find.

Re: Blog Debate Over the Merits of Lynch's Paintings

RStandfest, your blog is fantastic. It's great you have dedicated a blog site to his non cinema work. Even though it is standalone work, I feel everything crosses over to a degree, his films are just a part of a larger art practice...the fact that they get the most attention notwithstanding. I too a...

Re: The Elephant Man and The Straight Story

My guess is that TEM was based on a real story and it wasn't David Lynch's idea. I mean none of the themes from DL's other movies were in TEM. Like no electricity, curtains, or strange dreams were in TEM. But thats just my guess. Interesting point about 'The Elephant Man' being based on a true stor...

Re: DLF.TV Preview for Dugpa.com Readers

Thanks a lot for that opportunity to have a look around, dugpa. Unfortunately I'm not sure I'll ever go back there; there's just so much TM proselytism one can stomach, and there is absolutely no section where one can hide from it on this site. Too bad. Well I can understand if you're not intereste...

Re: Pre-Order the New David Lynch DVD Box - the Lime Green Set

Hmmm...just got a bulletin from David Lynch Documentary on Myspace mentioning the Lime Green Box Set. They said about the mystery disc..."only David knows what's on the Mystery Disc and he isn't spilling the beans". Could it be an extended documentary about his coffee line?

Good response Tonya J, it's good chatting with you!
I pretty much agree with you too. I suspect it may have been the folly of youth if she did indeed say it.

Re: Lara Flynn Boyle Blogs Twin Peaks

I don't follow all the ins-and-outs of Twin Peaks. Why some actors were involved in some projects and others not. Why does Lara have to explain her absence from Fire Walk With Me? I'm not being argumentative, I just don't get what debt it is she owes to anyone that she must be dumped on for not giv...

Yes I too feel there are some close links in Eraserhead and FWWM. The endings are similar and both heartbreaking in a good way, similar redemptive quality to the end of Mullholland Drive as well. For a long time FWWM was my fave Lynch film. Not sure now.

I never realised that 'Eraserhead' was ever shown on SBS. I first saw it on a bootleg video cassette a friend gave me. I used to run a film society during my undergrad years playing 16mm prints of cult cinema and avant garde film. One of the first films we wanted to get was Eraserhead as at the time...

Re: Art-based accomodation

What is art based accomodation ? Is a place you can stay if you make art there? The experience you are trying to generate is very interesting. That would be very meditative. Mike Retter Ha sorry, that was a little vague. Essentially the place is an independant Hostel, but the woman who runs the pla...

Re: Sounds

Yeah that is interesting. The soundtrack is Lynch inspired along with Splet. I like the soundtrack of Eraserhead for it's constant un-escapable noise. That could be partly a technical issue as well as sound design but it works great. I think Eraserhead works best of all his films (I have not yet se...

Hey BTW Mike, Nice to see another Aussie on the forum. Nice work there, weird coincidence too...I was just working on a sound project using electrical hums not unlike the sound you used for that piece. I'm currently here in Montreal making a simple installation where the 50hz hum we have back home i...

Re: Cronenberg CRASH (1996)

Fire Walk With Me and Eraserhead were the films that influenced me as a teenager. I was truly moved by the two films. The latest film to have that effect on me is David Cronenberg's CRASH. I disagree that Cronenberg is tied to genre anymore than Lynch. CRASH is not a genre film. There are no bad gu...
