Re: How would Lynch/Frost tackle Season Four?

^I didn't get the "Eraserhead" vibe much at all in mood, tone, or pacing. The overly clear and hi-def cinematography kept it from having that surreal, truly dark feel that film has. It actually felt more absurdist, playful, and even more comedic than anything he's done in a feature film, s...

Re: One year later - how are we feeling?

I also love their final scene, the shootout in Dougie's neighborhood, as a classic example of subverting expectations. We have the FBI, we have the Mitchum Brothers, the perfect Mexican standoff ready to happen. Then this Polish accountant comes out of nowhere. And Belushi caps it off with, 'what k...

Re: How would Lynch/Frost tackle Season Four?

Jen Lynch actually said that INLAND EMPIRE was her least favourite of her Dad's films and that it sorely needed Mary Sweeney's editing on it! Really? I disagree with that. "IE" is the shortest feeling three-hour movie I've ever watched. It really feels like half that. Because things keep ...

Re: What's next? What chance do think there is we will see a season 4?

I haven't really thought that the Showtime part of the equation was an issue. Certainly they wouldn't turn down a new season, even if it may not have been the success they hoped. Showtime saying anything positive about it doesn't amount to anything. It's only about whether the creators ever had any ...

Re: One year later - how are we feeling?

I still need to do a full rewatch. I've been going back and looking at scenes more often recently, although I tend to pick scenes I like. I should look at ones I hated to find out if my opinion has changed. For the most part, I'd still rate myself about 51% disappointed. This return could have been ...

Re: Theories & Speculation

^I don't think that questioning the concrete "reality" of what you're watching is a fruitful pursuit, not even in something that says it's a dream (and anything that says it's a literal sleep dream is a cop out or at least a throwaway, as is "Oz"). "Mulholland" seems to...

Re: Theories & Speculation

For me, I reject any and all ideas that any part of the narrative or characters are part of a literal nighttime dream. Any ideas like that discount so much of the show, both iterations.

Re: The Random Twin Peaks Thread

I just watched "The Resident" on Fox tonight. There were two original series actors in the episode: Kathleen Wilhoite and Dana Ashbrook! No scenes together though. This is a phenomenon I have come across again and again -- multiple Lynch and/or "TP" actors in the same project/sh...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

In blowing up the structure of something like Mulholland Drive to an 18 hour film/series that perhaps goes some way in fulfilling the original idea behind Mulholland Drive I consider very radical. Lynch returning to the pacing of Eraserhead and plastering it throughout all 18 hours of The Return is...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

To me, there’s wonderful directing and flourishes. There’s almost nothing but talented actors and performers in this overcrowded landscape. But for me, nothing to latch onto. Everything seems like a setup with no pay off. And I know most will respond to that statement of wanting things to be explai...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Same here a few weeks ago. I had mf signed secret history, secret diaries (3x, signed) all the rare and huge foreign posters for fwwm, press kits, handbills, a dL/Charlotte and jack nance’s “ghost” signed EH poster, star pics cards, the dale books, the board game, cd’s, cassettes, all of the Lynch ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

My reaction’s been more straightforward: last weekend, I took my complete Twin Peaks Blu-Ray box set, my David Lynch movie Blu-ray set, the Secret History, Secret Diary and My Life, My Tapes books and Crazy Clown Time CD to my local charity shop. The new show ended my decades-long affection for Dav...

Re: No Ray Wise?

I think that Wise could have been used a bit more than he was without it seeming they were showcasing him just because he was so popular on the original. Things could have gone any number of ways as far as bringing him in more than saying just two words and looking like he is holding in a fart. He c...

Re: What's next? What chance do think there is we will see a season 4?

I don't believe the show will or should come back, but if it does, it MUST be the same set-up as this time with Lynch directing and at least co-scripting the whole deal, complete control, all that. Whether an additional writer or two is brought on is a secondary consideration. Having any other set-u...

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

I like the sick girl scene too, but feel it would have benefitted from just about anybody else attending on it aside from Ashbrook. He didn't belong. Andy or Hawk would have been preferable. The scene, like many in the series, felt like a nugget Lynch had in a drawer somewhere and decided to fish ou...
