Re: The biggest problem with The Return - the fear/mystery element largely missing?
I don't think digital was the problem, it was rehashing old material. The good part of Season 3 (I acknowledge no marketing terms from Showtime) was Part 8, the purple place, etc, and used a lot of CGI and digital photography, but it was NEW, and I think Lynch was more excited about it than the old...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service
I think ROS could have found a way to make the non-plan plan end up less of a mess. TLJ was setting up something specific: take the franchise into new territory. While taking the story into a different direction would certainly have been welcome in the trilogy, the second part of is absolutely not ...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service
My issue with Rise of the Skywalker wasn’t that it was nostalgic, it was that its storytelling choices felt incredibly lazy. It all boils down to the fact that there was no plan for the trilogy beyond making films to get money. No one cared about the story, and thus The Last Jedi was allowed to der...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service
everything I’m reading indicates that the sequel trilogy essentially cancels itself out because Johnson tried to go one direction and Abrams just overrode all that in the new film. It’s baffling, and makes the whole thing kind of pointless in retrospect. Well, it's more like Abrams went one way in ...

Agent Earle wrote:Unless, of course, the emperor is naked - for if it can be so many things for so many people, doesn't that indicate that it's ultimately about nothing? Sorry, had to
Anyone can write a mystery story if they don't have to come up with any of the answers.

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)
And have any fanedits appeared yet, cutting out most of the scenes set in other locations, and only keeping Twin Peaks scenes and Red Room scenes in the cut? I figured something like this would have appeared by now, given how many people were disappointed in The Return. I had a plan of doing this, ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?
the Profoundly Disappointed gang is just plain WRONG about The Return. Really? So there aren't random characters, conversations that lead nowhere, there's plenty of Agent Cooper interacting with people in Twin Peaks, there's continuity beyond the pilot and FWWM, there's an ending and an actual plot...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)
Twin Peaks is, and always has been, Lynch's and Frost's pet art project. Of course it is, and I fully acknowledge they don't owe me anything just because I'm a fan of the original Twin Peaks. I just feel like advertising under the name Twin Peaks, claiming it's Cooper's journey back into Twin Peaks...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)
There's nothing wrong with disliking those ideas they had, but painting pulling together prior ideas that they may have been been mulling over as a negative has always seemed odd to me. That's not really the issue. The issue is the end result looks like the Twin Peaks name is just painted on to sec...

Right, so Cooper has tried and failed at least twice. Still, where's the loop?

Re: 'Russian Doll' Makes Me Appreciate S3 More (Spoilers for RD)
I think the time loop is pretty universally acknowledged by fans Is it now? I find that argument to be quite the weasel words. "Oh tons of people agree with me, just trust me." I haven't seen the time loop being any universally accepted truth anymore than any other theory. Of course, I ca...

Re: 'Russian Doll' Makes Me Appreciate S3 More (Spoilers for RD)
So you don't think Sarah watching the TV playing the boxing scene on a loop signalled 'time loop' ? Maybe. Or maybe it symbolizes the monotony of her life. Maybe it's her favorite match she watches over and over again. Maybe it's something she watched back when Laura was alive and she obsessively r...

Re: 'Russian Doll' Makes Me Appreciate S3 More (Spoilers for RD)
The problem for me isn't that things aren't explained, it's just that there is very little evidence that there is anything to explain in the first place. I honestly believe Lynch and Frost just threw mystic sounding stuff into the script, without ever intending it to fit into existing Twin Peaks mat...

Re: No Ray Wise?
This is what's cool about Twin Peaks. So many people can have such divergent opinions of what is or isn't impactful or quality for the show and still love it enough to discuss it in a (usually) civilized way. Cheers! I'm quite jealous, since I'm still struggling to find anything positive to say abo...
