Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

I always took that in that way, yeah. The maddeningly long scenes of him doing what we perceive at the time as nonsensical doodling then turning out to contain deeper meaning feels like some kind of near-satire of himself, even.

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

There's also the option that, purely from a narrative perspective, this is what they saw as compelling material that justified itself thematically. I don't really see either of them as preoccupied with what critics think or audiences expect, and from what I've seen of how Frost phrases things (eg he...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

He hasn't posted anything on his youtube in a while in terms of shorts, and if that doesn't end up satisfying his moving-pictures creative need during COVID, perhaps the next logical leap is something in line with those shorts? As in, maybe the most viable thing, and also not something he's done bef...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

I can’t imagine that they never meant to reveal the killer. I think the killer reveal led to some of the richest material in the franchise (Episode 14, FWWM), and gave much more depth to the series. Laura’s death went from being a MacGuffin in a Hardy Boys story to a genuine real tragedy. Even toda...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

I'm okay with no more, because much as FWWM and The Return have shown, it's not going to resolve or answer remaining mysteries and questions, and it will just bring up a bunch of new mysteries and questions that will never get a resolution. I don't see the problem with that, especially given the or...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

It is definitely not misanthropic to have a return to these characters after so long, for most likely the last time, and to want them to have decent send offs. Come on, man. The only original characters that got a good ending were Norma and Big Ed, and even then....they wasted 50 years of their liv...

No, I do not find not enjoying or wanting to find out that characters you enjoyed from 25 years ago are all miserable and dying or otherwise have been stuck in the same ruts for 25 years to to be more misanthropic than writing a story where said characters are all miserable and dying or otherwise h...

Re: Laura's diary pages (Potential Spoiler?)

What I will say (without evidence) is that I think if the TV show didn't exist, no one would care about the books, and the only reason anyone cares about the books is the TV show. Sure, but there's plenty of things I never would have checked out had the TV show not alluded to them, for instance, a ...

Re: Fire Walk with Me General Discussion

Retcons such as these can also be chalked up to the fact that people lie. Frost's books have some new twists on fact in them that, also, can only be logically explained away as the characters, as we see them on screen, not being forthright with info in the public setting that is often the camera's a...

Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

But ultimately I think it's lacking the humanity that made people fall in love with TP.... I think a lot of why people fell in love with TP is not having to do with humanity or realism, actually, but fantasy. There's a lot in the original show that is a kind of too eager to entertain wish fulfillme...

Re: Antkind by Charlie Kaufman

Haven't read Antkind yet (sitting in my pile!) but wow, 'i'm thinking of ending things' has been the first thing since TP S3 where I'm constantly gravitating back to thinking about it, sometimes without even knowing it. As someone who's totally clueless about theater, I didn't even realize that the ...

Re: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me at Cannes Photos

I mean, Lynch and Cruise have had time to fall out, patch things up (prior to her effusive Gold Box DVD interview), and then inexplicably fall out again over her screentime in TR? Cruise seems a little all over the place.. No kidding. In fact they're actually (last I checked) back on good terms, bu...

No idea, but it's been fascinating to see the subtle evolution of the structure of the reports. I love the little Lynchisms he does now between the current temp and later day forecast.

Re: What did we know before?

I can relate to the regret re the Palmer house ending scene, but then again, it certainly was a unique way to experience it. The realization of how little time was left and yet we still hadn't seen a short-hair common-clothes Laura was palpable, adding to the sense of time running out. Then when we ...
