Re: Legendary Picks Up Rights to Classic Sci-Fi Novel 'Dune'
I somehow missed that this remake is in the works until I read it here. I've been reading Dune the novel (the first one) so I can then watch Lynch's film, finally. I have never cared much for science fiction, but I'm really enjoying Herbert's Dune so I'd make it the exception. Likewise, my BF could ...

Top of the Lake v.2 compared to TPTR (spoilers)
I've meant to point out and invite dialogue on some similarities I noticed as I viewed ToTL S2 "China Girl." I found S1 quite mesmerizing so I was excited about S2, although as with TP, I had reservations how Campion might revisit something that was accomplished in a singular way, artfully...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
- why do we see no wildlife in Twin Peaks - no owls, birds, or anything of that sort? Everything pretty much there also feels quite 'still' - we don't barely ever see the old trees blowing in the wind imagery. Why is this? Well, it makes us feel not at home in Twin Peaks. We see an owl in Las Vegas...

Re: Tom Sizemore accused of molesting 11yo
It's disgusting and incredibly saddening at once. I want to *like* and *respect* Sizemore's performance in TP:TR, especially in Part 13. He was crooked and conniving then he made a convincing parlay into his character's alter ego of vulnerability and supplication. But I loathe the impulse he's repor...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
I also disagree vehemently that the show is anti-nostalgia. DirkG has put it wonderfully and elegantly: Anti-nostalgic WTF? You couldn't be more wrong. Part 18 is arguably one of the most nostalgic pieces of television ever. It depicts exactly what nostalgia is. A faint distant voice in the pitch b...

Re: FINAL POLL!!!!!!! Your Reaction to The Return and its smug fans who think these threads are all about them
Dislike mostly; but want to acknowledge where I thought cinematography did work for me. Settings and landscapes where they proved most effective, range from the warehouse/ penthouse room in which the box was first introduced Part 1; meticulously detailed setting for such a bland task as watching-the...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
An interesting critique from The Solute: http://www.the-solute.com/twin-peaks-the-return/ Thanks for sharing this! I read the whole damn thing. It's so honest about disappointment, just accentuated on the verge of 'bitter' but not quite? THen rather ambivalent by the very end, as far as not wanting...

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return
It occasionally made me think of Last Year at Marienbad, but nothing new there, a lot of Lynch's work does. I'm glad you mentioned this movie though, since I'd never heard of it. I found an immersive review of it at criterion.com that really makes me want to see it now! I'm rereading Bulgakov's Mas...

Halloween and Jack-O'Lantern Ideas from THE RETURN
Anyone got 'designs' on a particularly iconic character from TP:TR to dress up as this Halloween? I'm also browsing online what's been created in the past for jack-o'lantern images. BOB's fearsome face has shown up on the pumpkins of a few talented artists. Wigs like Diane's or Candie's; coin pendan...

Re: RIP Harry Dean Stanton
What an amazing life, so many roles undertaken, and a passion for playing music. Alien, I'll never forget his expression beholding the creature. Roman on "Big Love." And of course TP:TR's scene with Sarah watching TV with wild animals tearing eachother up, evoked that similar one in Wild a...

Re: Mark Frost's Contributions to TP:TR (Speculation)
Just to be clear, the mission statement of this thread is not to say that Frost had MORE input than DKL, or even equal input necessarily. Nor is it to distribute praise or blame to either partner. ..I guess what I'm saying is, I'm personally less interested in the gossipy speculation, and more inte...

Re: An apologia for Sarah
it seems like in the instance of certain returning characters, DKL was more interested in the particular shtick he wanted to see the actor do than in crafting a "natural" evolution of the character... Sarah's characterization definitely feels more an outgrowth of Grace's subsequent work.....

Re: season 3: controversial masterpiece or lifeless fraud??
Great, 2 extreme opposite choices.
As if the film/ series wasn't already polarizing enough.
What is the purpose of such a poll, exactly?

...Jeffries switching the owl symbol to infinity.... I keep reading this, but as far as I can remember Jeffries made it into a figure 8, not a lemniscate ( sideways 8 ). Whether or not it can represent "looping" in either sideways or upright: but much chatter has been given to its represe...
