This year marks 20 years since the US theatrical release of the feature film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me”. To commemorate this milestone, there are a few events that I wanted to share with you all.

First off, the good folks that put together the amazing Twin Peaks 20 Art Exhibit last year will be doing a new show to honor Fire Walk With Me’s 20th Anniversary happening in Santa Monica’s Copro Gallery between April 21 through May 12, 2012. “This new exhibition will include all of the artists from the previous show, and will also expand it to a gallery setting with an artist reception featuring unreleased music from Twin Peaks and many suprise guests! The fact that the gallery is located in part of what used to be a train station, fits the theme of Fire Walk with Me particularly well since Laura Palmer was murdered in an abandoned train car by the tracks which became ground zero for the TWIN PEAKS franchise. ”

Hoping to catch the film on the big screen. Well, look no further. On February 24th, 2012, Fire Walk With Me will be screening in New York’s 92Y Tribeca. Also, I can confirm that the film will also screen at this years Twin Peaks Festival on August 3rd.

Keep checking back in the next few weeks including at the Dugpa.com forums where we you will find exclusive information on Fire Walk With Me 20th Anniversary events.

Offered for sale are the remaining photographs from the 25th Anniversary Blue Velvet Exhibit held in the Dennis Hopper Building, 20 Princess Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, November 9th through the 13th 2011. All of the photos were taken on location during the production of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet in 1985 by Peter Braatz. All are black and white printed on poster board and 20 inches by 30 inches. Each print is one of a kind with the exception of #37 of which a total of 10 were made.

Be sure to check out the absolutely amazing photos over at:

Blue Velvet 25th Photos Official Website

Additionally, you can check out a new film trailer to Peter’s film “No Frank in Lumberton” which I really hope will get an official release at some point:

Also, be sure to “Like” the Official “It’s a Strange World – the Filming of Blue Velvet” Facebook page. The film is set for a 2012 release and will be presenting a very rare glimpse of what it was like to be on the set of the film Blue Velvet as it was being made.

As you probably know, Blue Velvet has finally been released on Blu-ray this week. I’ve had a chance to check it out and let me tell you it is nothing short of amazing. The transfer and sound mix will blow you away. If that was not enough, the Blu-ray includes never before seen footage from the original negative print. This footage has been completely edited and sound designed by David Lynch. These clips bring a lot of character depth to many of the characters with smaller roles as well as includes a scene that Lynch himself deemed as “too much of a good thing”. This is not a Blu-ray to be missed and if you don’t own a Blu-ray player, this is a reason to go get one.

If that was not enough to sell you on it, be sure to check out some clips from the Blu-ray including an exclusive clip to provided to Dugpa.com.

The book covers her entire career and is a great read! There is also a great article on the new book over at WordandFilm.com that has quotes from the book about her experiences on the set of Twin Peaks. Also, you can check out a great review from AP here.

She will also be doing some book signings in Texas and Florida.
Nov 9 at 7: Books and Books (the most beautiful bookstore in America) in Coral Gables

In Ft. Worth:

About the book:

An intimate memoir by three-time Oscar nominee Piper Laurie, one of Hollywood’s most gifted and respected actresses

At the age of seventeen, in the glory days of movie-making, Piper Laurie was living every little girl’s dream. Having been selected by Universal Studios to be a contract star, Piper was removed from her acting class and provided with stylists, chaperones, leading roles, and handsome dates, and elevated to the heights of Hollywood. Her beauty was admired by the likes of Ronald Reagan, Howard Hughes, Paul Newman, Tony Curtis, as well as dozens of directors and legions of fans. Her name was emblazoned on marquees across America for hit movies of the fifties such as the The Prince Who Was a Thief, The Mississippi Gambler, and Ain’t Misbehavin’.

But Piper discovered early on that the little girl’s dream was not her own. Mortified by the shallowness of the roles and movies she was given, she longed for the freedom and fulfillment of her own artistic vision. After years in the studio system, shy Piper Laurie found her voice and the courage to burn her contract. It was only after she left the oppressive studio culture that she began to star in the TV shows, plays, and films that truly became the hallmarks of her career: The Glass Menagerie on Broadway, the original Days of Wine and Roses, The Hustler, the iconic Carrie, and Twin Peaks. She grew into a three-time Oscar-nominated actress, an accomplished sculptor, and a director.

This memoir is the inspiring tale of Piper’s perseverance to break from tradition and to practice her craft at the highest level. She started life as a withdrawn, mute child who couldn’t find her voice and was transformed into a woman who learned to live out loud by her own rules.

Jojos over at the Blu-ray.com Forum was kind enough to provide some very juicy details on the extras that were released on October 5th with the Belgium release of Blue Velvet. Below is the running time plus short descriptions on the Deleted Scenes that have made it to the Blu-ray release:

1. Frank beats Willard in a bar. – 03:13
2. A neighbor sees Jeffrey’s dad unconscious in his yard. – 0:26
3. Jeffrey is recalled from college when his father suffers a brain hemorrhage. Summoned from a school dance (where he watches a date rape in progress – !) Jeffrey gets the bad news on a dorm phone. – 10:39
4. Jeffrey calls Louise. – 01:49
5. Jeffrey first sees Sandy while eating cake with her mother. He also meets Sandy’s boyfriend Mike at this time. Jeffrey and Sandy go to the Slow Club. – 12:37
6. Jeffrey’s mom criticizes him for coming back home late. – 00:53
7. Jeffrey calls Louise again. – 00:47
8. Jeffrey talks to aunt Barbara before going out. – 00:54
9. At the Williams house Jeffrey makes Mike jealous by hanging out with the couple. – 08:48
10. Jeffrey calls Dorothy but it’s Frank who answers the phone. – 02:17
11. Jeffrey goes to Dorothy’s apartment. She leads Jeffrey to the apartment roof. Dorothy almost throws herself from the roof in despair. They end up making love. – 09:16

Based on the details posted, it appears that the quality is comparable to the Blu-ray transfer as all the Deleted Scenes are presented in 1080p and have full 5.1 audio mixes. Only a few more weeks till this hits the US. It sounds like MGM/Fox knocked this release out of the park.

Thanks again to Jojos for posting the details!

1. What can you tell us about your upcoming album “This train” ? How long did it take you to record it and why has it taken so long to release?

This Train is a record with a lot of soul and it covers a lot of ground. It’s sensual, erotic, spiritual, wistful, hopeful, and at times melancholy. It took more than a decade to make. There are pragmatic reasons it was a lengthy process, but ultimately I believe that every record has it’s own karma and timeline. In the years of my life that passed as This Train was being made, I experienced the passage of girlhood to womanhood, child to adult. I think in the grand scheme of things that was important. The content of the record reflects the realness of life and some things can only be known through the passing of time.

I think I had to live a little before I could truly represent it.

2. The first title was “Strange darling”. Why did you change it ?

This Train has always been the name of this record. Strange Darling was a different record completely. It was an idea that David had as we were chatting in his painting studio one morning when I was visiting. I was singing him an old standard I loved called “Guilty’. He said I should make a record of covers, and that I could do it in his studio. He helped me make it happen and the project took many years to finish. This record of covers, called Strange Darling, is on it’s own timeline as well. It’s time for release has not yet come. Some day.

3. Who are some of your musical influences?

A few singers that I believe have influenced my personal vocal style are Annie Lennox, Julie London, Alison Goldfrapp and Joan Osborne.

4. David Lynch is credited as the producer of this album. What was his role in this project and what was it like working together on it ?

David was the captain of this ship. He wrote all the music, played guitar and drums on many of the songs and collaborated on arrangements (chord progressions) with Dean Hurley for the majority of the record and with John Neff for three songs. David produced the tracks when I wasn’t at his studio, and then played them for me on my visits. He would play the track a few times so I could get familiar with it and then present me with lyrics he had written. After some discussion about the tone and mood he wanted me to convey with my voice and performance, I would enter the vocal booth and improvise melodies over the music using the lyrics he had given me. I sang the song over and over until I had composed a melody that he liked and considered right for the track. It was a process that worked quite well for us. Of course it varied somewhat from song to song, but generally we stuck with that formula. David is obviously a masterful director, and he always knew precisely how to draw out the performance he was looking for. He was infinitely patient, completely aware of my emotions and conscious of how to make me feel most at ease and appreciated. This is so important with a singer. Our voices can betray everything we are feeling. David could get me in the zone with a few words. Even after all these years, it is a thrill and a joy to create with him. The performances he gets from me show colors and inflections in my voice that I don’t know if I ever would have discovered without him. New colors in my crayon box! This is a very significant thing for a vocalist. I am incredibly grateful to him.

5. You already worked with him on “Inland empire” with a very impressive song, “Polish poem”. Can you tell us when and how you get involved with him ?

Thank you! I am very proud of Polish Poem. I met David many years ago though the same agent that introduced him to Rebekah del Rio. His name is Brian Loucks. Brian knew that David was interested in singers and making music and had a feeling that David and I would hit it off. Thankfully, we did. David and I wrote our first song together the day we met. It’s called “Right Down to You” and it’s now the second track on the record.

6. Were you a fan of his work prior to meeting with him?

I was a huge fan of Twin Peaks as a girl. It was my favorite show. The theme song had a remarkable effect on my developing musical sensibilities. It had this quality I found absolutely intoxicating and no other music had ever made me feel that way.

7. What is your favorite David Lynch film?

Ah, the hard hitting questions! Do you prefer dark chocolate, red wine or coffee? I prefer all three! You’ll have to settle for my top three. Lost Highway, Wild at Heart and INLAND EMPIRE.

8. Tell us a little about yourself. Where did you grew up, and when did you first got into music ?

I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where my mother Sunny and my stepfather Mitchell owned and managed Emerald Recording Studios. My mom is a singer and always nurtured my passion for music and singing. I was very fortunate to have parents that understood and encouraged my desire to be a musician. I was singing jingles as early as age eleven and played in my first rock n roll band at seventeen. I’ve been the front person in many bands along the way, in numerous genres. It’s always been music for me. Nothing fulfils me like creating and performing music.

9. What other projects do you have coming up ?

I am in a band called Black Book Angel that is developing the live presentation of my work with David. We’ve written some great original material as well that I look forward to sharing with everyone when the time comes. Soon.

10. Will there be any music videos released to accompany the album? Any concerts ?

Dutch Rall, my creative partner in Black Book Angel is also a filmmaker, and he has directed a video for the song Real Love. He also filmed ‘Making of’, which is a behind-the-scenes look into the creative process between David and myself. A very gifted filmmaker from Portland, Oregon, named Chel White is doing a video for Bird of Flames, which is a duet between David and me. Chel also created a stunning video for Thom Yorke’s ‘Harrowdown Hill’.

I will be collaborating with other directors as well over the course of this project. There will be a tour to support This Train, details of which are still unfolding…
